Entry
Visitors must have a current passport. Thailand does not require a
Visa for tourists staying short periods. On arrival immigration will
stamp your passport for entry permitted up to 30 days.
Weather
Thailand's tropical climate
is influenced by the southwest and northeast monsoons. There are three
seasons: Dry (November through Feb), Hot (March through May) and Rainy (June
through October). Diving is possible all year round, but there are about ten
days each year when monsoon winds are too strong for safe recreational
diving. Air temperature is between 20-35C. Most of the time warm to
very hot and humid, nights are often a little cooler.
Water
Water temperature in the
Andaman Sea will average around 27C (about 80F). With sometimes a few thermo
clines. The Gulf of Thailand has similar water temperatures.
Currency
The local currency is the Baht.
All major credit cards are accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops.
Electricity
220 Volts, 50 Hz is
standard.
Language
Thai is the official
language but most Thai people working in the tourism industry speak English.
Speak slowly and clearly and they will understand you just fine.
Health
Health services in
Thailand are excellent. Most of the country is free of malaria, cholera and
other serious diseases. However, check if your vaccinations are still up to
date. Normal precautions with food will keep you out of trouble. Be sure
to drink only bottled water.
Dress Code
In all tourist
resorts shorts and t-shirts are acceptable. Women are expected to
dress appropriately when visiting temples.
