News Gateways
Ley Gateways - had been in existence for centuries, but until recent times,
they hadnt been noticeable. People just claimed to see things in specific
places (ley crossings) like ghosts and whatnot - which of course was the
otherworlds.
The Gateways always existed, they are just invisible much of the time. They
only occur on the Ley Crossings - places where energy within the earth is the
strongest. Four times a year, every three months, beginning with Midsummer,
these Ley Gateways show the strongest connections between worlds.
There are six Gateways in Liosliath. All the Gateways have been in existence
for thousands of years, possibly as a result of a magical accident, though no
one knows for sure. Until recent years they were veiled, as in there was a
mystical barrier that prevented ANYTHING from coming through. But then there
WAS a magical accident.

Timeline
3488- A mage from Liosliath attempts to drop the veil between the Gateways so
that they can be better controlled. He is killed in the successful attempt,
unaware of how much energy he would suddenly absorb, which means that no one
knows quite how he did it. The portals are now wide open without barriers. The
Guardians have to move quickly to stop anything from coming through.
Unfortunately, they are too late, and dangerous beasties come through from the
world at the other side of the Gateway.
3489 - The Garragg ruler of Liosliath requests the help of the Guardians in
dealing with the Gateways, knowing that he doesnt have the resources to
control it himself and the excess energies are wreaking havoc with Liosliath.
3490 - The Guardians work out how to close the Gateways between the solstices,
healing the rift for a time. The veils were restored, but were weakened around
the solstices, when the ley crossings were the strongest. For five days every
three months, anything can come through them.

NEWS GATEWAY1 -
The Gateways appear in clearings. Sometimes ancient stones are arranged by
civilisations long past, and sometimes they open within the heart of the
mountains. They are invisible for much of the time. If you were to walk through
the area where one normally resides, you would feel a shiver, the hair standing
up on your skin.
When they are fully active, a faint shimmer can appear. And if you look
closely, you might be able to see the world connected to it on the distant
side, but it is like trying to look into the heart of a rainbow, or in some
cases-a shadow. Just when you think you have it-it slides away. They are
normally ovoid in shape and range in size from that of a clenched fist to the
size of a decent sized house.
Sometimes, by accident, something can come through the Gateways. Or when the
Ley Riders go through the Gateways, they might bring something back with them.
Mostly what comes through is harmless-but occasionally, something really nasty
gets through, wreaking havoc.
The main concern for the Lledrith Guardians is that of the energies that spill
over. part of the role of the Ley Riders is to maintain the balance of the
earth as this energy takes effect.
