In 2493, moving to both maintain the warrior spirit of Liosliath's clans, and
reduce the inner strife for better to focus on external enemies, Ailbhe
Docartaig create an elite troop. Soon to be known as the White Company, this
group of 200 warriors accepts members from all the clans - and only the best
warriors.
Over the years, as their reputation grew, duty in the Company came to be seen
as a great honour, as well as a both dangerous and difficult task. Each man, or
woman, serve for a five years enlistment. Officers may serve as many as ten
years per enlistment. During the term of enlistment the primary allegiance is
to the White Company. In this fashion, warriors from different clans work
together, and return to carry with them a spirit of cooperation. The majority
serve one enlistment, however as circumstances require additional enlistments
maybe offered to individuals.
The Company has, as its primary duty, the protection of the High Thane, and his
family; both internally and on foreign visits. They are also in the forefront
of military action, often the first onto the field.
The White Company maintains a small fortified tower, Caer Fionn, in the
Duthchas clan holdings. The uniform of the white company is:mail hauberk over a
gray arming doublet, with mail over gamboissed chausses below (all mail).
Surcoat and heavy boots are brown, red-dyed heavy leather gauntlets. Wears no
clan colors, a enameled badge depicting the company's emblem - argent, a pile
sable set with a charge depicting the White Tower - fastens a knee-length brown
cloak. About the pile sable set is a colored wreath that denotes rank. Gold for
Commander, Brown marble for officers, White marble for all others.
