Aradashe Weapons

Sword (udafi)
The standard Aradashean side-arm is a two-edged short sword. In Zhithori, some have single edges, like a sort scimitar or cutlass. Most udafi are of bronze. The udafi is standard-issue for many of the armies of Aradashe, including Ifera.

Halberd (kishati)
The most romantic (and expensive) weapon of Aradashe is the kishati, a slender, elegant bronze or iron halberd. Fashioned by expert craftsmen, each kishati is unique and can range from a simple blade on the end of a short spear to an ornate scaled-down polearm with a wildly-shaped head. Nobles wield kishatis proudly as a symbol of their wealth and status. Some bold nobles choose the kishati to hold their resaika (warrior's soul). These weapons are often seen in art depicting such heros as Umashi and Wezha'ki in action.

Spear (ome)
The most common weapon on the battlefield is the ome. Used as a spear, pike, or lance, it is the mainstay of Aradashean warfare. Lengths vary from 2m (6 feet) to 5m (16.5 feet). Shorter ome can be thrown, if necessary. Some pikes have hooks just below the head, that enable a foot soldier to pull a mounted opponent from his horse. The common foot soldier carries a crude ome with a rough shaft. Nobility, however, use them as standard martial arts weapons. These spears are elegant and well finished. Proper use of the ome is crucial for a refined warrior.

Bow (are)
Bows are popular weapons on the battlefield. They are of composite recurve construction, learned from the bows used by Hatego's army. The general term for arrows is masa.

Iklwa (bunai)
The bunai is a spear that was developed in Useturu to be used with a shield. It is shorter and stouter than the ome, and is used in one hand. Over the years, the blade has become longer and broader, allowing for slashing attacks, as well as stabbing, in close quarters. The bunai has become popular over most of Aradashe for soldiers called jadoyasi, who are armed with two javelins and a bunai, which is worn in a sheath over the shoulder. Once they have thrown the javelins, jadoyasi use the bunai for close combat

Javelin (vala)
Javelins are used in battle for skirmishing and breaking up tight formations. Jadoyasi and lower ranks of soldiers carry them in sheathes in the backs of their shields.

Sling (chechu)
Another skirmishing weapon. Slings are very popular among commoner soldiers.

Dagger (hadi)
A small weapon often carried as a side-arm for lower-class warriors or civilians.

Resaika Dagger (pagari)
After the 2000s LE, all nobles carry pagari. They are often ornate and rarely used as weapons. Their main function is to hold the warrior's resaika. These are the main identifiers of an Aradashean's nobility.

Long Cavalry Sword (tazudai)
With improvement in ironworking by the end of the Golden Age (2000s) came the tazudai cavalry sword, which answered the need for a lighter melee weapon than the kishati that was also long enough to use on horseback. This sword is two-edged and tapers a bit towards the tip. The hilt is simple. While not as popular in battle as the kishati, it is handy in close melee.

Polearm (gesaji)
Polearms are popular in Zhithora, and their use has spread to the battlefields of Kuno and Useturu. In Zhithora, they are especially elaborate. Special ornate versions with exotic blade shapes are used in parades and by palace guards. While artists use these exotic polearms to characterize Zhithoran armies in artwork, most used for battle are simpler poleaxes with long stabbing blades at the top, much like the ones used in Kuno and Useturu.

Bearspear (ome'batha)
Bearspears are heavy glaves and, although clumsy to use, they are fearsome weapons. Developed to penetrate improved armor, they are capable of terrible damage in thrusting or slashing attacks. By wielding a bearspear, a warrior is advertizing his strength, for it takes great strength to handle one properly. A major exponent of the bearspear was Oto'mi, who was renowned for his prowess with the weapon on his many adventures with the Kosumosa Company.

Triangular Sword (ketsucho), Mace (budo), and Battleaxe (futashi)
These three are mainly historical weapons in Aradashean warfare, and are rather uncommon in 2409. They are still used by some hill tribes and barbarians. Ketsucho are early swords, made when metalworking was still in its infancy. The base of the blade is very wide for strength, but the blade then narrows to a point. Futashi were the main hand weapons for warriors for many centuries.
