The Lewis Overthrust is Not Folded?

The green is John Whitcomb and Henry Morris quoting two geologists in their The Genesis Flood. The black is what Whitcomb and Morris did not quote.

Most visitors, especially those who stay on the roads, get the impression that the Belt of strata are undisturbed and lie almost as flat today as they did when deposited in the sea which vanished so many million years ago. Actually they are folded, and in certain zones they are intensely so. From points on and near the trails in the park it is possible to observe places where the beds of the Belt series, as revealed in outcrops on ridges, cliffs, and canyon walls, are folded and crumpled almost as intricately as the soft younger strata in the mountains south of the park and in the Great Plains adjoining the park to the east.

This is a classic example of an out-of-context quote because they are trying to convince the reader that the contact point of the Lewis Overthrust is not folded and used the above misquote to support that claim. The very same book in its “Preface to the Sixth Printing” says “To this we would only suggest that skeptical readers look up the references for themselves” to previous mentions that their book quoted out-of-context. I guess they were betting that their sheep never would.

For more information on this particular quote and their mishandling of the Lewis Overthrust please check the source I used to get the full context of the quote. It includes full references and information on how Whitcomb and Morris also got the location of the overthrust wrong. In reality, the Lewis Overthrust is folded just as mainstream geology has claimed it is.

This site shows that the above quote and a second quote from same authors are out-of-context. For more information on this false creationist claim see this.

Here is a creationist site making similar claims.

Also see “Just what DO they say Dr. Morris?” for a much more recent example of Morris quoting out-of-context.
