The County Cruisers is a group of recumbent bicyclists. The Cruisers ride the first Saturday of every month. Note...this is a change. Previously the Cruisers rode on the second Saturday. No dues, no meetings, just a nice monthly ride spring summer and fall. March, April, May, September, October and November rides are at 9:00 a.m., and June, July and August they start at 8:00 a.m.
For information on the starting point check the "Next Ride" page or contact Armand at (402) 553-4472, or email armandg@cox.net
.

You can show up any time we have a scheduled ride, but if you'd like reminders before each ride send an email to me (armandg@cox.net). Most people find the reminders very convenient.

The Omaha Pedalers have a great new website...

FOR SALE

"Since I got my new Rans Stratus, I would like to sell my Rans Tailwind. This is a 2005 model, and has about 2000 miles on it. It is in like new condition, and has two bottle mounts, a rear view mirror, and a small bag for tools and tubes.

The bike is almost like new. It has never been ridden in the wet or on dirt or limestone trails.

I would appreciate it if you could put it on the County Crusers web site if possible. I have it listed on Craigs list for $600, but I am willing to sell it to a Cruser member or family for $500."

Sharon says, "I looked at my records and I bought the bike in June 2001. My receipt says a Gold Rush EXS. I know it was fitted to my height, but I can't find what size it is. I'm 5'9", with long legs. I started having problems with my heart shortly after, so probably have less than 100 miles on it. It has 24 gears (8/3). The owner at Health Cycles had already assembled it. He set it up for speed, which I didn't really care about. I've added a rear carrier, a double kickstand, mirror, computer, and a bottle rack. It also has the cobra seat which is wonderful if you have any kind of back problems. I took some pictures of it and have attached them. If I can't get a reasonable price out of it, I'll probably start working on my husband again to ride with me, but like I said "I just don't think that will ever happen."

I looked at what the GRR is selling for today ($3,499.00) with taxes and adding what I have, it's right around $4,000.00. I've kept mine in the house and I know it's got less than 100 miles on it. It is in excellent condition."

Do you ride a recumbent or know someone who does? If you do, contact me at 553-4472, or email me at armandg@cox.net. It would be great if everyone in Omaha on a recumbent could be a "Cruiser," so we could all share information and ride together. There can be more rides than once a month... It really turns heads when a group of us are out riding! The County Cruisers were founded over fifteen years ago by Nebraska artist Armand Gibbons. His work is featured on the Prairie Breeze Graphics website: Prairie Breeze.

A Great Investment…Recumbents, like any other quality bikes, are a little more expensive than your generic department store bike, but they are made with quality components, and chances are your recumbent will be a lifetime investment. They run from $500 up, and there are many manufacturers.

If you learn to weld, with a little care, you can build your own. Dennis did, and you can check out his bikes at: http://members.cox.net/dbikeman/.

It's even easier with a kit from LaBent by LaDue down in Lincoln: http://www.radiks.net/~ladue/.

Or you can find used bikes and a wealth of information on Recumbents.com pages: http://www.recumbents.com/home.htm.

If you're handy, you can build a composite-frame long-wheelbase recumbent called the Groundhugger (http://www.rqriley.com/bike.html). John, one of our County Cruisers did. It's easier than you might think, especially because the plans publisher lists materials and sources and very detailed fabrication notes. The Groundhugger is pictured below. For more information, click here Good luck!

Enjoy! and I hope to see you pedaling with the County Cruisers some day.
