Arrow's Covey Buster

Carol's "rescue" Chesapeake, Buster was saved from the shelter, finishing his championship in nine shows and earning his Working Dog (WD) title after only one hour of training.

Buster had an incredible nose which he demonstrated on our first hunting trip with him about 2 weeks after being rescued. My partner shot a pheasant in our end of the field some 60 yards away from where Carol was hunting with Buster and Sacca. We couldn't find the bird and called Buster over to help out. He went to the area of the fall and immediately starter running away from us. Some 70 yards later he crested a dike, took a sharp right turn, crossed a dirt road and headed across another field.

About that time we thought he was going to run away and everyone was calling and whistling for him to come back. As he disappeared into the trees some 400 yards from us, I started to head for the truck to drive over and search for him when someone said, "here he comes".

As he got closer, Carol said, "what does he have in his mouth"? We soon realized he had a pheasant, still quite alive and mad as hell. The bird had only been shot through the wing and had apparently been running through the underbrush since he hit the ground and Buster had followed the blood scent to retrieve him.
