Monica Bishara

Watercolors

Monica Bishara retired after teaching art for 20 years at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans and now works out of her Baton Rouge studio.  A signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society, she served as President from 1999-2001 and was elected President again in 2006.  Her traditional landscapes and still life paintings are filled with a luminous quality inspired by the warm southern light of her Louisiana home. Her paintings hang in public and private collections across the country and have won numerous awards.

Artist’s Statement

I enjoy the process of discovering how light transforms the environment around me. In my paintings, I try to capture a transient, light filled moment in time such as a hazy, damp morning when colors are soft, or perhaps a warm afternoon when sunlight brings out the sparkle in glass and creates magical world of color and shadow patterns.

Five By Five Art Exhibit Variations on a Theme

July 1-August 29, 2003

The much acclaimed traveling exhibit which made its debut in April 2003 at the St. Tammany Art Association, in Covington Louisiana, has traveled to the Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge for a nine-week exhibit and to the Zigler Museum in 2004. This unique exhibit revolves around five different objects painted by five women artists in their own genre. The artists are Monica Bishara, Carol Creel, Patti Pilie, Annie Strack and Karen Stakelum. Although each artist paints in watercolors and their styles vary, the exhibit is linked together by the five objects that they have chosen to portray. Each artist is a member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society.
