The
steel orbs incorporate photovoltaics to collect the sun's
energy during daylight to light internally at night. The
artist's goal was to combine art and science while making
an ecological statement about renewable resources.
Thea
received her BFA from SUNY Purchase in 1994 and has since been
creating sculpture and installations inspired by the environment.
In 2008 she won her second public art installation project and
was published in The New York Times for an installation
on Governor's Island, NY. She has received numerous grants to
support her work involving community interactive and environmentally
aware installations in the public realm.
