| David Dobbs:
2002 was great. Always a pleasure to visit our stomping grounds.
The aging warriors give way to the new generation. But the same mission.
Our motto was "Peace Is Our Profession". At the time I thought that
was a little crazy, considering that I was busting my rear to make sure
that these ICBMs were ready to blast the Soviets into the Stone Age.
But, as time goes on, and I get older (wiser?), I see that we were in fact
a great deterrent. We did in fact keep the peace! The Soviets were
really afraid of what we could do. Sentinels For Peace; that's what our
squadron emblem says, and truly we were. All those days of routine
maintenance, routine crew duty, were
anything but. Today's photos don't do us justice, we have to remember those faces and places as they were then. Shining missiles, LO2 rooms, humming(!) powerooms, calm LC rooms. And going topside, just to get some fresh air, especially when you'd been on-site for 12 plus hours, trying to get that stupid overhead door to cooperate and return to EWO status. I'll never forget those years, never regret them, and I count them as the best years of my life. Best Regards, David Dobbs A1C MFT |
