The following are character descriptions of the main character of the show.  To see more about the actors view the links on the left.

Season One

The Character of Max Evans.  He's Handsome, enigmatic, a "non-joker" by his own admission.  Teenager Max Evans is something else.  He's descended from the aliens who crash-landed in Roswell 50 years ago, as are his sister Isabel and best friend Michael.  Max is their natural leader, careful to a fault in shielding them from discovery.  When he saves Liz Parker's by using his powers to heal her bullet wound he risks everything.  Max's blood may be alien, but his heart is as human as any teenager in love.

Max is portrayed by Jason Behr

The Character of Liz Parker.  Liz Parker is sixteen and beautiful, although she doesn't realize it yet.  She's also a smart... a straight-A student and founder of the West Roswell High Society of Future Scientists.  When Max Evans saves her life and reveals his alien origin, a whole new world opens for Liz.  She falls truly in love for the first time, embarking on an ongoing, frequently death-defying adventure beyond anything she's ever imagined.

Liz is portrayed by Shiri Appleby

The Character of Michael Guerin.  Forlorn.  That is the best word to describe Michael.  One of the three young aliens growing up as normal teenagers in Roswell, Michael had the misfortune of becoming the foster son of the local reprobate Hank Whitmore.  Unlike Max and Isabel, who lucked out with wonderful, caring foster parents, Michael was regularly abused and beaten before he legally severed his ties.  Now the young Roswellian is tied emotionally to Maria DeLuca: although, like Max and Isabel, his destiny may lie elsewhere.

Michael is portrayed by Brendan Fehr

The Character of Maria DeLuca.  As Liz's best friend and co-worker at the Crashdown Cafe, Maria DeLuca is a ball of nervous energy "a teenage accident waiting to happen", according to Isabel Evans.  But she's also loyal to the end and a quick thinker - handy attributes when your outwitting the police, dodging FBI agents or keeping one step ahead of extraterrestrial shape-shifters.  Like Liz, Maria happens to be in love with an alien... Michael, who cares for her greatly.  But, as with all the young aliens of Roswell, Michael may be compelled to peruse a different personal path.

Maria is portrayed by Majandra Delfino

The Character of Isabel Evans.  She is beautiful and somewhat regal, the sister of Max and one of four young aliens currently living in Roswell.  Isabel is also something more: a sensitive, lovely young woman who is afraid to let the outside world know who she is.  As a result, she's never gotten close to anyone beyond her immediate family.  A rare exception is Alex, who loves Isabel and would risk his life for her

Isabel is portrayed by Katherine Heigl

The Character of Alex Whitman.  It's hard to figure out Alex at first.  He's skinny, talkative, smart and a little annoying sometimes he tries to pry secrets out of Maria and childhood pal Liz.  But when Alex donates blood to help Max, endangering his own life in the process, he proves himself a true friend and is welcomed into the inner circle of alien-human allies.  Alex is also crazy about Isabel.  Much to her surprise, Isabel develops real feelings for him too.  Like the other alien-human relationships this one is fraught with uncertainty.

Alex is portrayed by Colin Hanks

The Character of Kyle Valenti.  Life has been kind to Kyle in some ways.  Blessed with sturdy looks and an athlete's cockiness, Kyle reaps the usual rewards.  He was dating Liz prior to the crashdown incident.  When Liz broke up with him, it was a shattering blow and he takes his anger out on Max.  Kyle also is missing something.  His dad, the sheriff of Roswell, is so pre-occupied with the mystery surrounding his fathers past that he neglects Kyle without realizing it.  Kyle is saved by Max when he is shot in the episode Destiny and changes the course of his life and finds budda.

Kyle is portrayed by Nick Wechlser

The Character of Tess Harding.  Tess appeared towards the end of season one.  Tess was raised by the Nesado and came to Roswell to find the other teenage aliens and unite with them.  Tess is suppose to be the past bride or Max and to be his destiny.  She is a strong character that must deal with the person she has grown up believing is her future husband is in love with another.  When the Nesado dies she is left alone, however, Sheriff Valenti, who now knows the truth about the teenagers takes Tess into his home.

Tess is portrayed by Emilie de Ravin

The Character of Sheriff Valenti.  The local lawman of Roswell, Jim Valenti has been dealing with aliens all his life...  only now he really believes in them.  The majority of the first season was spent investigating  Max and the events that happened at the Crashdown.  He discovers the truth when Liz comes to him after Max has been captured by the FBI.  He realizes that there is a right and wrong side and he feels he is on  the right side by helping Max.  He is also fully entrusted into the circle after Max saves Kyle's life.

Sheriff Jim Valenti is portrayed by William Sadler
