44-8889 was accepted by the Army in February 1945. Not
much is known about the early history of this B-17, but it could have arrived
in time to serve operationally in the last months of the war in Europe.
It joined the Institute Geographique National's fleet of B-17s in August
1954. Registered as F-BGSO it was heavily modified by the IGN for survey
work. On 8 September 1976, it was donated to the Musee de l'Air in Le Bourget
near Paris, France. Its present condition is unknown.
