Chap 1. Pirates


   
After the aborted exploration Campaign I started a pirate campaign with a dinged up, undermanned, haunted high tech frigate for a PC vessel.

    The unpowered hulk of HMINSS Hiraku Chekov is found by Dsarr Jako in the planetoid belt of An II, a penal colony for La. After many weeks of labor he manages to activate the main computer, bypassing its security routines and establishing control of the ship.

    Dsarr contacts his auntie Yang Ming to begin putting together a crew for the renamed Irukandji.

    The pirate crew have run out of money, material for repair and patience. The CHENG estimates that remaining repairs will cost over MCr 300. They have lost contact with their remaining fuel shuttle, a 20 dton Launch. The SDB's which provide security for the mining operation have concentrated in the area and are visually searching the planetoids near the mining camp. The orbit of the planetoid they are moored to will be within 4 Mkm at perihelion. At closest approach they will have about 600 kl fuel, enough for less than a week of power at house keeping level. After all the repairs they have carried out the ships stats are as follows.

At the point of closest approach the Irukandji left hiding and pummeled the defenders closest SDB totally disabling it in half an hour of combat. At the first hit the assault lander begins its launch sequence and is not able to be stopped so a crew and troops are rushed aboard. The Irukandji also destroyed a smaller target which was slightly further away. It proceeded towards the mining camp while two more defenders fled before it. Several hits were taken with beam weapons and nuclear missiles causing the deaths of 10 Bay gunners and several equipment casualties.
    The bulk carrier docked at the camp attempts to depart but is disabled with a series of fuel hits. The Assault Lander  carries the ships troops to the docking ring where they secure the transfer hub killing three local security troops. After the Irukandji docks they coerce the locals into supplying fuel by threatening to destroy the station. Over an eight hour period they load the ship with parts and supplies to repair the vessel and recruit eight gunners.
    After departing to search for the disabled supply ship they repair the L/S and artificial gravity and the PA and missile bays. Two Blasers are replaced with Plasers. They find the ship and remove several sand turrets and download the star charts.

    Irukandji jumps to the Gas giant at Kiibaamkagaadi (II)/Vanguard Reaches [1707]

011-1124  Kiibaamkagaadi (II Gamma)/Vanguard Reaches [1707] ( XC00000-0)
    Irukandji arrives at the Gas giant and encounters multiple contacts with power levels in the 4k to 20k Mw range. They wait for the convoy to pass by before refueling. As they lift out of the GG's gravity well they encounter a single contact. As they approach they detect a smaller contact and elect to destroy it with fire from all beam and particle weapons. They then board the other vessel, a Collacian City class Commerce Carrier (70  yr. old, Fair condition), converted to low berths and engaged in transporting a group of nearly 300 "back to low tech" colonists to Gamin/Horizons Edge [2524]. They have 30 dtons of TL 3  tools for settling a wilderness planet. They 15 crew are placed in low berths aboard the Irukandji. The carrier is fueled and sent toward the 100 Dia limit while the Irukandji refuels and rushes to meet it before jumping to Sashkhiid/Vanguard Reaches [1404] on 013-1124.

018-1124    Sashkhiid/Vanguard Reaches [1404] (B48A479-E)
    Irukandji and the Collacian commerce cruiser arrive at Sashkhiid's arriving jump zone and proceed towards the planet taking up orbits as required. when the customs cutter boards them they ambushed them killing two and capturing twelve customs officers three of whom are recruited, the rest are placed in cold sleep.
    The customs cutter, a slow boat (30 dton crew 2(120 yr old Fair condition)) is transferred to the Collacian Commerce carrier. The port begins broadcasting a warning about the PC's activities as they spend the next day in wilderness refueling operations. They then proceed to the 100 dia limit and jump to Gemgumugashupu/Vanguard Reaches [1102].

    Irukandji arrives at the inbound jump zone for Gemgumugashupu. After being assigned an orbital berth the crew begins liberty and the command crew begins to look for ways to make money. They are offered a charter in a 24 parsec convoy composed of several escorts and numerous merchant ships. The employer will provide fuel and logistical supplies for the PC's warship to the destination. The pay is 10 MCr per month, they receive 10% of the 1st months pay up front (1 MCr) and use 90% of it for repairs to the ship which are conducted by the ships crew in the two weeks before the convoy leaves. They completely repair P1 and  reduce P2, jump and maneuver damage by 12 points @.

    The other ships in the jump 4 convoy to Hadry in the Ugumipu Sphere arrive. They include:

The convoy commanders flag is on the Iman Gorghe. He reveals the route only one jump at a time. The Irukandji will be placed in the lead, with Alabaster and Abalone and their subcraft as flankers. The Iman Gorghe, Defenestration and Impalement will closely escort the merchants. After refueling the convoy will form up and jump to [0703]/Vanguard Reach.

    The convoy comes out of jump near the 100 Dia limit and forms up as the ships arrive. It then proceeds on the six hour journey to Isi Up alpha which is to be cleared of traffic for the convoys use by prior arrangement. As they begin the final approach to the up port the sensor operators on the Irukandji pick up two weak power sources at extreme range. It soon becomes apparent that the contacts are closing on the convoy from opposite directions with a large vector. In minutes they have passed with the missiles in their wakes causing havoc among the freighters. The jump drives of the Istar and the Usler are disabled in the pass and each of the ships take extensive though generally minor damage.
    A La Destroyer Escort is captured after its computer and power are destroyed by accurate fire from the  Irukandji. The two attacking fighters are destroyed by other group elements although the hulk of one is recovered. The Isi admiralty court summarily awards 675 MCr to the group and the commodore awards each vessel .112 MCr
    While the damaged Yasters are repaired the Irukandji goes into the yards and has her hull armor partially repaired. A crew member is caught  red-handed committing rape and is held for trial. The local law asks to be compensated for the cost of the  trial. The ship also pays off drunk and disorderly charges against several crew.
    While buying weapons Yang Ming is attacked by several dissatisfied crew members who only manage to wound their guard. Knarr  dispatches one of the offenders with  his special psi power. The other is brought to the ship and dispatched by the crew.
    The commodore shifts cargo to the H.M. Mench and Lally reducing the convoys speed of advance to jump 3. Even so 16000 dtons of cargo are left with the stricken freighters. The route must be changed due to the shorter jump possible. Officers and crew given short pay Officer share 2378 Cr, Crew share 434 Cr.

062-1124    Isi/Vanguard Reaches [0703] (B85769A-8)
    The convoy casts off from the station and shapes orbit for the six and a half hour trip to the 100 diameter limit leaving the Alabaster and Abalone behind to shepherd the merchants and the remaining 16000 dtons of cargo to its destination. Upon arriving at the limit they execute a fleet jump to [0605]/Vanguard Reaches, Khushiimidishm I Epsilon.

064-1124 In jump space Isi to Khushiimidishm.
    The armory is opened at noon the second day in jump. A General Alarm sounds with a voice overlay, 'Unauthorized Breach of Security seal in the armory. Ready Response team to the armory', and keeps sounding for the next several hours. The Armory has 16 crates marked as ammunition for the weapons and armor found as well as 4 crates marked 'HBX-80' with red bands. The crates are inspected for traps with portable sensors and found to contain ammunition as marked. The crates marked HBX-80 each have (5) five 2m dia.  t3 cmhick discs with a red foil side and a green plastic side with two red raised patches one marked 1,3 and the other marked 2,3 in Galanglic.
    At 0700 on the third day in jump Rglar Joe Svntn is found dead at the Deck 2 sandcaster station with the top of his skull ripped out and his brain removed. A muster finds several crew missing. A buddy system is ordered and a search begins. One of the suits of battle dress is found to have blobs of a mercury like substance firmly attached to the inner lining and it is segregated in the bay.
    At 1515 that afternoon Rglar Joe Svntn is picked up on internal sensors on deck 5 with Stward Tre. Moments later S. Tre's body is discovered in a stateroom by a team which sounds the alert. Around 1600 the internal sensor in the officers galley fails. A response team finds only a S. Tre engaged in preparing a meal. The bodies of the other stewards are found stuffed in the galley cupboards. When the team attempts to arrest him he attacks killing RJ Frtn and NJ Twlv before escaping into the elevator. Minutes later the senior corpsman enters the lower cargo deck where a team guards the materials recovered from the armory. When challenged he attacks killing RJ Fr and Tre and snatches up the infected battledress moving towards the bay doors before being frozen with nitrogen grenades.
    The bodies and the suits are flushed out the airlock into jumpspace and a thorough search of the ship is begun.

072-1124    Khushiimidishm/Vanguard Reaches [0605] (A588122-D)
    Irukandji arrives  in its expected position three days late. It takes a day of boost to catch up with the gas giant system during which they are escorted by a thousand ton SDB. Upon arrival they are assigned an orbital berth and work on the drives begins while the first liberty parties go dirtside. Two days after arrival  only two of the original liberty party have not returned although several crewman have returned late, still incapacitated. An Aslan, Dr. Benbak, is hired as Medical Officer with one share of the officers booty. A Captains and XO's meeting is called by the commodore with transportation provided. Soon a Gig arrives, upon boarding only two security guards in combat armor are evident.
    A few minutes into the flight Yang Ming receives a radio call that an assault lander is attempting to dock and they are ordering the  Irukandji prepare to receive boarders. The security guards here the report and draw their weapons holding Ming and Ryikr D'taa at gauss rifle point. This standoff lasts only a few moments, during which they find out that a customs officer who joined the crew at Sashkhiid had betrayed them. The front of the gig is blown off by Blaser fire from the Irukandji. Ming and D'taa attack the guards when the gig loses gravity. After killing the guards, Ming and D'taa transfer to the Irukandji and begin boosting to escape the trap sprung by their former allies. During the battle in which two escorts and the collacian commerce cruiser are vaporized the Irukandji deals out extensive punishment to the cargo carriers. It takes extensive damage itself as listed below.

    Ming decides to jump back to Isi and attempt to take the escorts and cargo left there.

082-1124    Isi/Vanguard Reaches [0703] (B85769A-8)
    Irukandji arrives at the inbound jumpzone and hails the escorts left behind with a tale and AEMS sensor logs showing a overwhelming force waiting when the fleet comes out of jumpspace. Yang claims a message was received saying that the fleet is coming to Isi and attempts to get the SOPA to follow the Irukandji away. SOPA informs her that the freighters won't be out of the yards for six weeks and they will make a stand under the guns of the planetary defenses. Ming gets a  300 kCr advance and some logistics.
    Ming, Orion Darkstar, Angel and Dr. Benbak with a three man security detail go to the startown to look into the black market. They are at a bar where the bartender is willing to set up a meet with Morly Mahn for a 100Cr tip. As they are waiting to meet him, another patron grabs Dr. Benbak and punches her yelling "You filthy Aslan pirate!". Orion Darkstar quickly steps in a delivers a devastating flurry of blows knocking the man .unconscious When Morly is able to see the party he is unable to help them with the parts issues but is able to give them the name of a contact at Kegiish/Vanguard Reachs [0101].
    After a few days to finish urgent repairs the  Irukandji jumps to Imir/Vanguard Reachs [0303].

095-1124 Imir/Vanguard Reachs [0303]  (CA44000-8)
    Irukandji arrives at the main port and docks for resupply. The crew picks up some information about the cargos of several ships heading to E for the Lotreaf high time. They attack the ship that is leaving with the richest cargo and the ship departing nearest in time. They are able to take the the richest ships cargo but must leave it and the other vessel behind when SDB's begin closing in. They then shape orbit to jump to E/Vanguard Reaches [0203] on 099-1124.

    Irukandji arrives at the main port and lands delivering speeders seized from the cargo at Imir to customers eagerly awaiting them. They steal a cargo of robots and repair parts for the Particle accelerator and attempt to seize a small ship on the way out but are unable to secure it prior to jumping out to Kegiish/Vanguard Reachs [0101]

    Irukandji arrives at Kegiish's inbound jumpzone and is escorted to a berth after being cleared through customs. Upon landing they dispose of such cargo as they have and go into town to contact Jazlin Catri at the Blue Nova. He is able to give them the name of a ship dealer. They dispose of the slaves to Rick Casy. They trade their ship and most of their robots and battledress to buy a fairly new Sokta class commerce raider (Inquisitor) in good condition by giving 40% of the take for 1 year. They recruit crew and take on supplies as well as a representative of Jazlin Catri. The newly named Inquisitor goes into intensive training

    Inquisitor arrives in system and follow arrival protocol. Assigned an orbital berth and inspected by customs cutter escorted by 2 SDB's. Other military vessels are in evidence around planetary space. After several days it is decided to go to Irkas/Fulani [3103]. Two lots of freight are contracted for transport and loaded.

    Inquisitor arrives in system and follow arrival protocol. Assigned to orbital berth and purser ordered to report to customs office. Deliver freight. Command crew with streetwise crew members dispatched to check for intelligence on cargos and ships. Learn about a rich cruise ship scheduled to visit in the next week. Dr. Benbak books passage on it and waits as the ship lifts off and boost out of local space looping around to lurk near the inbound jump zone. Attack the vessel as it comes out of port to the 100 diameter limit as Dr Benbak signals the ships location. The fighters get in close posing as customs cutters then gut engineering with 4 hits. The ship is taken quickly with 191 pax and crew. Two pax are shot after making a disturbance. The ship is towed to a asteroid belt where the fuel tanks and engineering are repaired to 1/2 G. The ships then jump to Idkabasukuga/Fulani [3102]

    Inquisitor arrives in system and follow arrival protocol. Proceed to port where they refuel over several days. Depart for Kegiish/Vanguard Reachs [0101] on 182-1124.

Kegiish/Vanguard Reachs [0101]  (B330874-9)
    Inquisitor arrives at Kegiish Down and transfer prisoners, keeping the youngest girl and ten young women for slaves. All cargo except personnel baggage is sold with the baggage being returned to the owners. The ships take after all booty is sold is 68.3571 MCr. The Capt. gets 9.765 MCr. The Owner gets 39.1 MCr. An Officers share is worth .831 MCr and a crews share is .163 MCr. The Capt. and owner each give .5 MCr for a POM award and 5 and 25 MCr respectively go to a fund for a asteroid base.  The POM's (Flight, Assault, Shipboard and Engineering) gets the services of a robotic steward and a share of the POM award fund. POMs are voted on by the crew.
    While at Kegiish 11 construction engineers and 3 guards are hired. Materials and weapons are bought for a planetoid base.
    Knarr and Orien are attacked in the ring park by 4 thugs killed by Orien using his gauss pistol.
    The next day Yang ming and Orien are gassed and abducted. Ming falls unconscious immediately. Orien kills the two closest people, and another couple some meters away, before succumbing.
    Upon awakening Orien is being team beaten into unconsciousness by three thugs. Yang Ming is tied to a chair and interrogated by two men. A third man joins them shortly and simply stands in the corner occasionally calling one of the men over. Although she answers evasively the trio appear to know entirely too much about her background. They focus on Mings service in the Hadry convoy contract and her plans for the future. Eventually they tell her they are from a rival faction she may address as "Cee" and wish her to hit the remnants of the convoy which will be passing through a system "a jump one from where she intends to set up her base". Afterward she is blindfolded and placed in an air car. When she is tumbled out of the air car near the park she finds she is in Oriens company.

    Inquisitor departs from Kegiish. In the preceding days the material for the base has been delivered and stowed, personnel checked aboard and the ship fueled. "Cee" relays the date of the expected arrival of the US convoy at Arsharki/Fulani [2804] as 265-1124.

    Inquisitor arrives at inbound jump zone, pay customs launch for arrival fees and wilderness refueling permit. After refueling jump to Gegi/Fulani [2803]

    Inquisitor arrives at the inbound jump zone of Gegi I Delta. Pay for wilderness refueling and begin search for suitable planetoid to convert to a base at ~ orbit 3.

    After spending several weeks Yang decides to leave the construction team and the slave girls with the launch, 10 Ml. of fuel and material for the base at the best candidate already found, a 500m x 200m Dia nickel iron asteroid, a five day round trip to the gas giant. After wilderness refueling at Gegi Delta the Inquisitor jumps to Arsharki/Fulani [2804].

    Inquisitor arrives in the planetoid belt Asharki II Alpha trailing the gas giant Asharki II Beta. After several days of scanning the location of a base is fixed on A. II Beta Cee via neutrino emission. Inquisitor uses a low boost orbit to get into position trailing the gas giants 100 Dia. limit by 100 thousand km. After several days at battle stations a Flogger class frigate jumps in and is gutted by fire from the Inquisitor. A cargo ship jumping in is vaporized strewing about 3000 dtons of the carried cargo into orbit.
    The largest of the next three ships jumping in, a Flogger class frigate,  is savaged by fire from the Inquisitor. The other two ships, Gaak class Frigates, surrender without being damaged after being assured their merc bonds would be honored. They are herded into the cargo bay of one of the Gaaks and microjumped with a skeleton crew to Arsharki/Fulani [2804] then redeemed at the starport. They receive 0.95 MCr from the merc bonds. The crew buy collapsible tanks for the ship, fill up with fuel and spend a week finding six crewman to fill out their ranks adding 1 turret gunner, 1 Flight Officer, 1 Flight crew, 1 Ships Officer and 2 Troops. Wilderness refuel costs 46 kCr, recruitment costs are 10 kCr, Tanks cost 2 kCr.
    The other ships meanwhile refuel avoiding the US base on the small moon in close orbit then begin the three week process of gathering up the free floating cargo.
Near the end of this process a small craft is detected shadowing the evolution. Fighters are dispatched to loop around the contact and come up on it from the rear. After a day of maneuvering they come upon a launch and convince them to give up. Two men wearing nondescript vaccsuits and claiming to be miners are captured and placed in cold sleep aboard the Inquisitor. After the all the cargo is gathered it is given a 15G vector out of system.

    The disabled Flogger and a thousand tons of cargo are placed in the Inquisitors jump net. All cargo holds are packed and the fleet jumps to the base in Gegi/Fulani.

    The Fleet arrives outsystem of the base. Engineers have installed plant, L/S and living quarters and cut the initial flyway After docking in the flyway the booty is  unloaded and the regular crew reconsolidated onto the Inquisitor. The Frozen watch stays at base to help the engineering team. The Inquisitor refuels on the sly from Gegi Delta and jump back to Asharki with a load of fuel.

    Inquisitor arrives near booty, spend three days matching orbits, pack up the rest of the cargo in the Inquisitor's cargo net and jump to Gegi.

    Inquisitor arrives outsystem of base. After matching orbits with base the cargo is sorted.
The final tally shows
60 Grave recon bikes in good condition, 40 in fair and 80 in poor condition.
One Bigbadaboom in fair condition and one in poor.
Ten C-80 trucks in good conjoint, 21 in fair and 32 in poor.
One GLAPC in good condition, 1 in fair and 7 in poor.
One R1 Missile Launcher in good condition, 1 in fair and 4 in poor.
An inflatable field hospital with 80 dtons of medical supplies and 1870 dtons of Armored Infantry logistics.
This process takes and additional two weeks. Keep best 60 gravbikes and 31 trucks after picking over the poor ones for parts. GLAPC is kept as well as the field hospital and medical supplies.
    The Farm tunnel is under construction.

    The Flogger in good condition and the Inquisitor jump to Idkabasukuga/Fulani.

    The Flogger and the the Inquisitor arrive at the inbound jump zone and proceed planetside where they pay for wilderness refueling and then depart for the jump limit to jump to Kegiish/Vanguard Reachs.

    Inquisitor and the Flogger arrive at the inbound jump zone and proceed to assigned orbital berths for both ships. Pay for a months unlimited shuttle landings for each ship. Dispose of Flogger to Rick and receive a total share of 185.24 MCr. The ship account gets 64.834 MCr, the owner gets 37.048, The Captain gets 9.262. An officers share is worth 435 kCr and a crews share is worth 105 kCr. Arrange sale of cargo at base and transfer of Knight class frigate to Rick.(Projected profit ~3 GCr)
    Ming and Dsarr invest in land on a  mountainous island (hx7 6E) in the northern hemisphere of Akhiimer/Far Frontiers [0631]    (E665400-3), 20,000 (5x16 km) and 80,000 hectares (16x20 km) respectively for 5 and 20 MCr.
    Ming and Benbak meet the reps from the US faction that kidnapped them at the weapons mart. They congratulate her on her haul and tell her if she wants to contact them to appear in public in Keegiash Down. Benbak follows them until one of them drops back and waits in the shadows after they turn a corner.

One deep cavern with multiple branches over 50 km long is discovered.
    Yang takes a walking patrol from the farm to the industrial area on to the harbor meeting the ship. The launch supplies food and shelter each night. They are attacked early in the morning when leaving the farm site. A huge amphibian lunges out of the water and wounds a sensor operator. Winged predators take the opportunity to launch their own attack and wound three more including Ming.
     The next day they find themselves in front of a dragon caused stampede and use grenades to slow the herd enough to take cover. They spend several hours watching the dragons and scavengers feed on the dozens of twelve ton carcasses. The next day they make their way to the future industrial site. A three day hike ends at the bay where they are picked up and flown to the site of the castle where Dsaar has been building a log lodge. Four personnel have been killed by flora, fauna or accident.

    Deanne's Dream encounters TBT cruiser inbound but Riyker decides that they can't catch it in time so they follow normal procedures and ID themselves as 'Hitlers Inquisition'. After refueling they check the bars and lift schedules and find two Fun class traders will be lifting in a few days.
    They lift off and position themselves at the outbound jump limit waiting. The ships lift a day early and head for the jump limit. As they pass 80 Diameters Deanne's Dream goes active and begins jamming, attacking the lead ship. Its maneuver drive is disabled and both ships soon surrender. As well as the 18/6 m/f crew there are 116 retired women on a grand tour of the wilds.

    Deanne's Dream arrives at inner GG. Refuels and microjumps to a position trailing the main world by 2 Mkm. Boost to approach the inbound jumpzone. After arrival she waits 3 days before a ship jumps in. Quickly boosting to intercept the DD goes active and begins jamming, demanding the targets surrender. The ship runs while firing back. After its drives are disabled its crew signals its surrender but fires a spread of missiles at close range. All of which miss. When Riyker tells the crew to exit the Jelaxian merchant in their cutter and stand by they attempt to flee only to be destroyed by fire from DD.
    After the maneuver drive is partially restored the poorly maintained ship, Yudaza, is refueled and collapsible tanks filled then it begins a seven leg trip to [0831]/Far Frontiers via empty hexes [1427], [1328], [1228], [1129], [1029] and [0930]/Far Frontiers. It is to be met in empty hexs [1328] OOA 168-1127, [1129] OOA 183-1127

    Inquisitor arrives at inbound jump zone. Contacts traffic control and is vectored to quarantine for one week. During this time they call their labor ministry contact and inquire about hiring out in the conflict between Irshuna and the Kingdom of Rad. They are referred to the Ministry of War and promised a call within a week.
    After several days they receive a call from a Capt. Horsly, after questioning them as to their capabilities and training she refers them to the Special Affairs Service.
    After contacting the SAS they are given an address in a small city and an appointment. At the appointment a man who refers to himself as, Msr. Tee, hires them to interdict military goods flowing in from Pikasashlurde/Far Frontiers in any intermediate system. They are given a list of ships names known to have carried contraband to the enemy and two systems they are known to have passed through.
    Yang begins recruiting and after two weeks has a full crew. She also sends a message to the Farm apprising the staff of her intentions.
