The Hermes Relay Drone is used to connect the farflung
units of a group of ships in combat with secure laser and radio communications
during long duration maneuvers. Its radio can broadcast on 13 channels
and receive on 169. Its twenty laser communicators can handle 260 transmit
channels. The model three computer handles encryption and tracking. Typically
carried by Destroyers or larger vessels the drone is launched to ease communications
by providing a stable relay point. Large fleet operations will use specialised
commo ships with a battle staff aboard.
