Survival Still
Introduced at TL 11, a survival still contains a
small fusion plant and chemical distiller/synthesizer that turns almost
any organic material into water and what is called nutrient pasete in the
technical manuals, or "glop" to anyone who has used a survival still. The
input hopper will hold 10 liters of material and in about 2 hours time
can process it. If material that cannot be safely converted is used,
it unit will not process anything in the hopper until the unsuitable material
is removed. Nutrient paste is usually stretched out with known edible material
or rations into "glop stew", or dried and used as ration bars.
The still is a simple version of a ship's recyclers,
which under computer control can turn glop into synthetic food with a bit
more texture and flavor. If a crew has a craft capable of landing, the
still is only used to provide raw nutrient paste to the ship's recyclers.
