We
are a volunteer group and run our activities on the weekends throughout
the year. In
the cooler weather we are usually in the lower desert regions and in the
hotter weather we go to the surrounding mountains.
Our members lead activities as well as participate in them. Our membership
is diverse, we have married and unmarried couples, singles, professionals
and nonprofessionals, working and retired, young and not-so-young, our
activities, however aren't generally designed to facilitate children.
Club members love meeting other hikers and making new friends on the trail.
Come join us for a hike! View our current Hike

or leave a message. New club members will receive a club T-shirt when
they join. |

What are the hikes like .........?
Our hikes or activities are generally single day or weekend events and
are listed in the regular club newsletter "The
Trail Mix" and in the Hike
Schedule on this site. Hikes are usually 5 to 13 miles
long with variable elevation changes. They are usually on established
trails that are well marked and maintained. We try to travel as a group
but allow for faster and slower hikers as needed, as there are always
hikers of differing abilities and walking speed. We wait periodically
to gather the group and be sure no one gets left behind or lost ahead.
We generally insist that one stays within site of at least one other
hiker. We
hike in National forests and the desert, large parks, near lakes etc.
Typical hikes include the Superstitions Mountains, South Mountain and
North Mountain near Phoenix, Monument Valley, Mt. Wilson near Sedona,
the Mt. Lemmon near Tucson, the Grand Canyon and the Flagstaff area.
There are usually great opportunities to take photos of the scenery,
wildlife, other hikers, yourself, etc. We bring snacks to eat on the
way and stop for lunch in the longer hikes.
We usually meet somewhere in or near town between 5:00am and 8:00am
depending on how far away the hike is. We are usually back in town and
heading home by dark.
How
do you participate? ... It's easy as 1-2-3!!
- Call the Hike
Hotline at 602-280-7647
to get information on the next sheduled hike and the phone number
of the member leading that hike, they will provide the meeting place
and time for the hike and can ascertain whether you have sufficient
experience and are prepared for the event. Guests are welcome to participate
in several activities before deciding if they wish to join the club.
- Hikers meet
at the designated meeting place and decide amongst themselves who
will drive and who will ride and compensate the driver, generally
5 cents a mile for gas. Riding with someone is handy if the drive
to the hike requires driving on dirt roads (most don't) and you don't
want to use your car or you don't feel comfortable taking your vehicle
as far as Flagstaff or Tucson etc. The group then goes to the trailhead
and does the hike. There is normally a mid-hike break for lunch.
- After the hike,
we usually stop a nearby "watering hole" for a social meal, a
beverage and to recount the day's adventures. After this we return
to the meeting place, pick up our vehicles and rejoin the real world.
