This information is still under review. This is for information only and not a statement of policy. As soon as information about the future of Military Fencing in CISM becomes available, we will post it here.
PURPOSE: To rank all US Armed Forces fencers. To assist in selection for CISM teams. To promote esprit de corp and competitiveness among military fencers.
Please note this system is not the final determination of teams, the coaches/board will have final say on team selection.
GOAL: Select nationally rated military fencers to create the strongest military teams that have a real chance to find success at international military events. To encourage participation in the military open and to promote a competitive arena for military fencers as they try to improve their military ranking.
RULES: Fencers are responsible for keeping their representative aware of changes in rating or status. The armed forces ranking system will be posted on the web and emailed out to the military fencers once a quarter.
SYSTEM:
Tier 1
The rankings will follow the top 32 of the rolling USFA point standings. Any military fencers ranked in the top 32 in the USFA will fill the top slots in the Armed Forces point system.
Tier 2
Points from rating and the military open will be added together to determine the final rankings. USFA ratings must be confirmed by the USFA. Tier 2 allows military fencers that are unable to get to NAC events but yet still are competitive at a national level, a chance to be ranked on the armed forces list.
USFA RATING
A = 500
B = 400
C = 300
D = 200
E = 100
MILITARY OPEN
1 = 200
2 = 150
3 = 100
4 = 75
TEAM SELECTION:
The top 8 fencers in each weapon will be submitted for possible entry on to the CISM team. They will be contacted to submit a resume. The coach or a board (with a rep from each service) can determine the strength of the TEAM selected and adjust as needed. For example if the top armed forces fencer is not in the top 32 in the USFA the coach can determine that fencer will not be strong enough to compete at CISM and therefore that weapon would not send an athlete or if the top 2 athletes in a weapon are very strong a 3rd may be selected to send a full team.
TOP FENCER AWARD:
The point system can be used to annually recognize at the military open the top ranked Armed Forces fencer in each weapon.
