Here's the Dog-O-War from Austrailian.

The Dog-O-War is a no frills, all thrills 71 model TP1600.

This shot was taken at Butler Falls on the Macquarie River.

I bought it about 2 and a half years ago and it is my second Baja. The Dog is fairly well know here Australia both in the Beach Buggy community and the VW community as a whole. I am an active offroader and use the Baja for a sport called geocaching (see www.geocaching.com for an explination). The Dog-O-War has a ball front end and swing rear. The 1600 is twinport using the 1300 block and 1500 mechanical dizzy. This combination keeps it mild and quite reliable with plenty of torque and revs when I need them. I visit the Dunes twice a year with Klub VW Offroad and spend the weekend after the rains in the mud exploring Mud holes I've plotted into my GPS.

About the only modification I have made have been most rust prevention of the pan, some electrical repairs, a tranny strap and seat covers. More recently it had been un registered to allow time for some more major repairs. The electrics have been tested and revamped, new Hella bulb's and H4 globes fitted, mild rusted floor panels replaced under pedal assembly and any minor oil leaks plugged with new seals.

The future will be more colourful with a new paint job, resprayed guard, body and rims, more electrical works done, now indicators and tail lights, front nudge bar with driving lights and more enclosed rear cage with spare wheel. I have also sourced a roof scoop but haven't decided if I will put it on of not.

I am a read or the Australian forum called www.aussieveedubber.com and spend the best part of my days hiding and seeking caches. I'm looking forward to the Dog-O-War getting back on the road. In the mean time when it's cool enough I'm having fun sanding, undercoating and generally dreaming about what else can get done to the Dog. The best part about owning a baja is watching 4WD owners faces when there bogged in a $50,000 discovery or patrol and I pull up in a $1000 Baja and offer them a hand to get out.

This little incedent happened on one of his trips to dunes with Klub VW Offroad.
You can read the whole story at the Klub VW Offroad web site in the Past Events under Stockton 03.
Sorry, I cannot link directly to it.

I do recommend that you visit their site. It has lots of good stories about offroading down under.

Heres a couple af nice scenic shots.
