This was my first car when I turned 16. It wasn't a baja when I got it. I put the kit on after I crashed on the ice one winter about a year after I got the car. I have lots of projects so I havent had tons of money to do the radical stuff. I have put a 1641 with a mild cam and a sand seal in the motor. I am still running the single port heads and puny carb. I only have a stock tranny with heavy duty CVs. I have turned the front torsion tubes, twisted the rear torsion bar and notched the spring plate 1/2". I threw on some bumpers and lights and called it good.
I drove the car that way for years in the sand on the Canadian river buttom and all around the banks and cliffs of Draper Lake. I had some minor wheel bearing problems, so I let the poor little bug sit while I worked on some of my many other projects. That turned into about 7 years.

Now I live in Tulsa, Ok and have decided to bring the baja bug back to life. These pictures were taken the day after my friend gave me a set of 32" Micky Thompsons. Not much tread left but the price was good. I had just gotten the bug back up and rolling again. It was the first time to take it out to Avery drive where all the rocky trails are. There is plenty of serious terrain out there, but the baja did just fine even with the mild amount of work done to it.

Now that I know it works well again. I have decided to repaint the car and fix up the interior also. Along with some fresh tires with big lugs. Now I will use the car as a daily driver to work. Don't worry I will still go out and get stuck in mud holes, drive through bushes and trees, tear through rocks and all the stuff that makes offroading so kick ass. I will send some more action shots of the baja when it was white and orange. I will also try and send some shots of the new work in progress. I got the fever to really step the baja up and make it tougher and nicer looking.

After a 2" or 3" snow I decided to go play in the baja bug. I took my wife and daughter along as a photo crew. I did more action than they were able to capture, but I was still glad to have some shots, of the bug in the snow. We don't get tons of snow here in Oklahoma but it sure is fun when we do.
I got the new ford tractor grey and red paint done and the jetta seats welded in.

I am still saving money for the heavy duty drivetrain setup. Rack and wide beam are on the agenda really soon also. I'm going to be ready for spring and summer time off-roading.
Baja Bugs RULE!!!
