Dr. Hulett completed doctoral studies in music education at Arizona State University in 2006, where he received several awards and honors. From 1995 to 2000 Dr. Hulett was director of bands at Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona, where his bands consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at concert, marching, and jazz festivals. While at Ironwood, Dr. Hulett built the band program from 65 students to over 200.
Dr. Hulett maintains an active role in Arizona music education, and is in demand as a judge, clinician, and performer. He has judged festivals in Arizona and Illinois, and has performed with numerous musical organizations in Arizona including the Salt River Brass, the Scottsdale Concert band, the Glendale Community Band, and many others. In addition he held the principal tuba chair in the Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble for 14 seasons. He is an active member in the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association, Arizona Music Educators Association, the National Music Educators Association, the Association of Concert Bands, and the Tubists’ Universal Brotherhood Association. In 2003, Dr. Hulett presented a clinic on elementary brass pedagogy at the AMEA conference in Phoenix.
Dr. Hulett is also employed by the Scottsdale Unified School District as the Research and Planning Analyst in the Human Capital Department and lives in Scottsdale with his wife, Kristen and his two boys, William and Bryce.
