Henrietta Kepeka Kia Nahaolelua was born on April 2, 1916 in Los Angeles, California, the second of two children. Her parents were George William Kia Nahaolelua, Sr. age 37, and Madeline E. Davies, age 28.
They also had a son, George William Kia Nahaolelua, December 8, 1914 in Los Angeles. (Picture, right, is Henrietta approximately 1920 - 22, about five or six years old)
She moved to Somerset, New Jersey when she was about 18. On March 22, 1934, she had a daughter, Madeline Antonia Sabella.
Four years later in 1938, at age 22, Henrietta, who also went by the name of Pat, had moved to 3144 Umatilla Street, Denver, Colorado, and worked for the "Tivoli Terrace", which may have been a nightclub. Like her parents, "Pat" also had musical talent, both instrumental and vocal.
From old photos like this one, left, she was a musician/entertainer who played for the troops during World War II. She was known as "real kolohe" - Hawaiian for a practical joker who enjoyed a good laugh.
Later in life, Pat married Charles "Bud" Coston, with whom she remained until her death on January 26, 1971 at the age of 54. She is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.
