Madeline Davies Nahaolelua

Madeline Davies Kia Nahaolelua (left) was born in 1886 in Brooklyn, New York. She was an actress, and was also known as "Pat Nahaolelua". Aloha Serenaders, Madeline bottom right She was the "Davis" of the duo Davis and Kelly who offered "Harmony, Talking, Musical and Community Singing Specialities".

She performed in a Hawaiian musical group called the Aloha Serenaders. (Madeline, bottom row, right) She was also a member of the theater troup appearing in a traveling production of Oliver Morosco's Bird of Paradise which toured the country about 1911.

She married George William Kia Nahaolelua, Sr. (left), born August 19, 1877 in Pakala, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. George Kia Nahaolelua He was the son of Edward George Huakini "Kia" Nahaolelua and Elizabeth Kahele Manawa-ole St. John. George was one of nine children.

George was a trained printer, but he was also an accomplished musician. He played several string instruments, among them the guitar, double bass, and ukulele. In fact, he was the author of The Self-Instructor for the Ukulele and Taro-Patch Fiddle, and Ukulele Solos and Hawaiian Songs with Ukulele Accompaniment.

These books were published by G. Schirmer Music Stores, Los Angeles, and Boston Music Co., Boston, MA. He was employed by the George J. Birkel Company, 446-448 South Broadway, Los Angeles, and conducted ukulele lessons at the store for customers purchasing the instrument. In addition, George toured with his own music group, George Kia and his Hawaiians, and played Hawaiian dinner concerts.
