About George Kia Nahaolelua, Jr.
![]()
George William Kia Nahaolelua, Jr. was born on December 8, 1914 in Los Angeles, California, the first of two children. His parents were George William Kia Nahaolelua, Sr. age 37, and Madeline E. Davies, age 28.
They also had a daughter, Henrietta E. Kia Nahaolelua, born April 2, 1916 in Los Angeles. (Picture, right, is George approximately 1916 - 1918, about 2 or three years old)
George and his mother had moved to West New York, New Jersey. It was here that George met and married Mary Isabella Bathgate, born November 16, 1916 in New York City. They had one child, Dawn Leilani, and divorced shortly after. He was quite a handsome guy. (Picture above is George, ca. 1937 or 38, in his early 20s).
George served in the Navy during World War II.
When the war was over, he settled in New York. By 1947, George had moved to Newark, New Jersey and married Anna Pier, age 17 (spelling may be incorrect - Peer, Pierre, Peare?). George and Anna had one daughter, Judith. While he still played in a Hawaiian band (picture, left), George also worked for a time as a truck driver in New Jersey.

On March 14, 1950, George was driving with a friend, Henry T. Carl, on Matson Hill Road in Clark Township, New Jersey. The car skidded out of control and George was killed, leaving his wife and 4 month old daughter. He was 35. (The photo, right, accompanied the newspaper article describing accident, which was the first fatal accident in Clark Township in 41 years.)
George Kia Nahaolelua is buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Linden, New Jersey. His grave remains unmarked, although he was a Navy veteran. We are still searching for any information about George and his family, especially those who might still be in Hawaii.
