Susan Barnett
Susan Barnett, 42, beloved wife and mother, peacefully left this earthly abode while surrounded by family and friends, and journeyed to Heaven on July 28, 2004, after a long battle with cancer.
Susan was welcomed into the family of John and Barbara Foltin in Lancaster at her birth on July 21, 1962. She was welcomed into the family of God at her baptism a short time later. She attended Grace Lutheran School, Antelope Valley High School, Antelope Valley College and the University of California Santa Barbara, graduating with a B.S. degree in Environmental Sciences. After college, she worked for the City of Lancaster's Planning Department, becoming a champion for preserving local high desert environment as part of the city's growth plan
On November 10, 1984, she married Lancaster resident and longtime sweetheart Peter Barnett. Peter and Susan's daughter Allie was born in 1996, and from that point on, Susan embraced and cherished her calling as full-time wife and mother, and the couple were again blessed in 1999, with the birth of son Brady. Susan was a loving wife and mother, as well as an enthusiastic volunteer in the community, making life-long friends at every turn through school, work, and volunteer work. She involved herself in the Los Angeles County Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Antelope Valley Heritage Foundation, and the Antelope Valley Trail and Recreational Council.
Susie loved nature and shared that passion with family and friends. She was an avid skier and waterskier, horseback rider, hiker, backpacker, birder and gardener and was very active in the ministries of the churches she attended.
Susan is survived by her husband Peter, her children Allie 8 and Brady 5, her sister and brother-in-law Judy and Mike Vosburgh of San Diego, her parents Barbara and John Foltin of Lancaster, and an extended family who loved her very much. Susan will be deeply missed, but her joy for life will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Viewing by appointment will be on Saturday, July 31, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Halley-Olsen-Murphy Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at Central Christian Church on Monday, August 2, 2004, at 11 a.m., followed by internment at Joshua Memorial Park. A reception to celebrate Susan's life will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan Barnett Memorial Trust set up for the children's future at Antelope Valley Bank or to the Los Angeles County Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Susan's family wishes to thank the members of Los Angeles County Fire Department and Central Christian Church and other family friends for their tremendous and caring support during Susan's illness.
