ADOPTION POLICY

The adoption process is as follows:

Fill out an adoption application. All questions must be completed on the application before it will be reviewed. You may fill out an application before or after finding a dog that you're specifically interested in.

Your application will be reviewed as soon as possible. This process usually takes a few days and sometimes up to a week while references are checked. You will be notified as soon as the application has been reviewed. If you haven't heard from a rescue representative within a week of submitting an application, PLEASE CONTACT US!

Once your application is approved, it's time to discuss which rescues will make a good match for you and your family. We'll discuss what types of activities you might like to participate in with your new dog, what type of energy levels would be a good fit for your household, and so on. When some possible matches are agreed upon, we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog(s).

The adoption fee can range between $150-200, depending on the individual dog's medical needs. If a dog was heartworm positive or required other special medical care, their adoption fee is raised in order to cover some of the extra expense. Please understand that the adoption fee rarely covers the total amount that has been spent on an individual dog. Our adoption fees allow us to help the future dogs that will come into our care.

An adoption contract must be filled out and signed in order for the dog to leave for its new home. While adoption applications may be sent through e-mail, contracts must either be sent through the mail or signed in person (depending on if you will be picking up the dog yourself or if other transportation has been arranged).

That's it! You have your new family member and hopefully everything's working out well! If any problems should arise, however, Bayou Border Collies is always here to offer advise or aid wherever possible.

If at any point in the future you cannot keep the dog you've adopted, you must return it to BBCR unless you have discussed the alternative with us. This allows us to find it another loving home and to keep track of the dogs we've placed.
