UBS drives and mini storage solutions have all been big hits. In parts of the world where having your own PC is a luxury, mini drives are essential. The ability to carry your own files just makes sense even if you own your  PC.  If moving between systems is something you do daily, and they are not networked, portable storage drives make a great deal of sense.

Over the evolution of the PC there are have been a slew of storage solutions. Zip drives, assorted diskettes and CD rewritables, all of these have been around to address the issue of storage.  Usually, size, space and simply the ability of the device to work well in multi computer environments have caused problems.  Factor in size, interoperability and performance and you start to see where many past solutions falls short.

Small enough to fit in a standard shirt sleeve pocket with more than room to spare, Verbatim’s new 2.1GB Store ‘n’ Go USB HD Drive offers over two gigs of storage in a portable hard drive.  Measuring a scant  2.75 x 2.125 x 0.5 inches, this miniature marvel has more than enough room to hold 500 hours of MP3 music, and  about 1,000 300dpi color photos. For those that find the 128 to 512 MB US flash drives just too small, this drive fills the needs of those that carry large files, or numerous small ones.

Able to connect to a USB 1.1, or preferably a USB 2 for faster access, this drive becomes interoprable with any system running a USB drive. Plus, the drive is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems.

Shipping with a carry case, strap and software for support in operating systems that need it, the drive is a like having a great little back up and mini storage facility.

Ringing in at $ 249.00, this is a practical solution for those that need to be on the go.

Summation

As a great portable device, the well designed aesthetically pleasing hard drive has much going for it as an excellent solution for those that need to carry their files with them. The wow factor is pretty high.  Just be careful about keeping it in your hands. This device can warm up after use. While it is not as sturdy as a USB flash drive, the size of the drive and its ability to work so seamlessly is a big selling point.  Having used the drive, I can attest to its dependability.
