Kelly's poem

We have a big red dog named Kel,
She loves to go hunting for quail.
In the morning, noon or nite,
She really gives them a fright.

Out at La Casita Con La Vista,
You know she won't missa.
You know shes done well,
once your`ve seen her tail.

Up in the pasture
She goes with her master.
When she's checking out the brush
She's always in a rush.

She's big, beautiful and red,
the quail will soon be dead.
For when you see her point-- you can say,
That really really made my day.

We all love you Kel,
Specially when you fetch us a quail.
O, that's such a lovely site,
Makes me shout with all my might.

If you give her a big whistle,
She'll turn and run like a missile.
And when her tail goes up,
Your in for lots of luck!

An Irish Shooting Tail

Last Saturday, my wife Nancy and our dog Caitie went to our cabin on 80 acres east of town. I took my shooting equipment as I have a little range there. As I was about to go down to the range my wife suggested her and Caitie go along. Caitie has been around shotguns but not 22's. Caitie is an Irish Setter. Not your ordinary Irish Setter, but bred for horseback field trials. She is very fast. In fact when we play fetch I have to make her sit till I throw the ball or she gets there ahead of the ball. Anyway I was shooting my gun with out much success and Caitie would occasionally look down range like she could hear the bullet hit the back stop or something. I switched to my daughters Gun that I've never shot in competition. I've been shooting it some because Art told me it was better than mine and I'm trying to decide which to shoot at Dietzville, Tx in a tournament. I had been shooting a short time when I called to my wife that my daughters gun was boring, it only shoots bullseye's. I had started with 6 in a row. About that time Caitie came over and sat next to my bench. I wondered how she would react to the gun being fired with her only 3 to 4 feet away. I shot. Caitie was off like a rocket down range. She got about 40 yards down range and she jumped and snapped like she was snapping at a fly. I thought, what a crazy dog. I looked through the scope to see if I had got my seventh bullseye, and NO BULLET HOLE! What is going on. About this time Caitie came back to the bench and SPIT OUT THE BULLET! I told Nancy we were going to have to keep her in the truck while I shoot as she had just cost me a sure bullseye. So Gary if Nancy brings Caitie with us to Dietzville, Tx, help me to remember to have her put in the truck before we shoot or it may cost one of us a bullseye.................Rich 1998
