My Bio
My name is Bernard Howe and I grew up in a small
Midwestern town in Illinois. My mother taught me to make up limericks when I
was a young boy growing up and learning about her Irish heritage. I loved the
rhyming and she and I would make a game of it. Then I grew up and got out of
school and joined the navy. I stopped writing poetry for many years, then I got
married and moved to Arizona where we raised 2 children. I work in the
construction industry, with a company that used to be in the Hi-Tech
field. Now since the industry has slowed down we have branched off into other
area's. I'm a project manager / estimator and I also run the autoCAD department.
I began to write poetry again in 1999 after
recovering from prostate cancer surgery. I started looking into different types
of poetry as a curiosity type of thing. I found it very interesting and decided
to try my hand at some of them and put them on my web site so maybe I could
give the incentive to others to branch out. I have been fortunate to have a few
poems published. I get a request every now and then to use a poem of mine. I never refuse
anyone a poem; I just like knowing which ones they like.
I began by writing western poetry or cowboy poems
about the old west because of my living in Arizona. I enjoyed hearing and learning about the life
of a cowboy. I used a pen name of Sonoran Sam for a while. I try to be
versatile in my writing and about 2 years ago I started to try my hand at a few
short stories. The one about Alaska is my true life adventure of working on the
trans-Alaskan pipe line.
I got into web development in 1997 also as I
wanted a way to post my genealogy that I have worked on for many years. And
later I wanted to post my poetry as I started to collect quite a few poems.
As I get older in life and my job profession as a Construction professional, I
plan on writing many more, and with a little luck I may even get to publish
them in a book of all my own poetry.
