What could it have been like
a couple hundred years ago.
Our relatives sailed the oceans
to this land they didn't know?
To leave everything behind
in search for a better life.
Some times they came alone
and found themselves a wife.
While others brought everyone
to this land of milk and honey.
Many times they gave up everything
and were left without their money.
Many traveled across this land
to a homestead their life long dream.
Sometimes they found their land
along a graceful gentle stream.
But some met with a dreadful ending
before they reached their place.
Killed by Nature's storms
or Indians without a trace.
Towns sprung up along the railroads
as so many were heading west.
Hunting for their fortunes
gold made them obsessed.
What did our family members
go through to live in this land.
A life that wasn't very easy
or a way we can't understand.
