As Granddad hitched the wagon and took us all to town.
I got a new pair of boots in my favorite color brown.
Sister got a new dress and momma got a hat.
Granddad bought a hoe while Willie found a cat.
Christmas on these plains in this our new homestead.
I rather be back in Ireland were we was born and bread.
With our families left behind whom we'll never see again.
We'll remember them forever as for here we will remain.
A new beginning to our life is what were starting now.
And on Christmas morning I am stuck behind a plow.
In the land of milk and honey we still need to grow our food.
So on this Christmas Day it only Love that we'll exude.
