- Is Job’s Daughters a secret organization?
- While like any fraternity or sorority, there are things in which only its members are privileged to know, all of our teachings are based on the book of Job in the Bible.
- Is Job’s Daughters a religious organization?
- Job’s Daughters requires a belief in God in order to become a member and our teachings are based from the Bible but, we are not a religion or based on one particular religion. Our members are made up of all different religions that believe in God.
- What is the time commitment required for Job’s Daughters?
- Job’s Daughter meetings are held twice a month on a set day and time, with the day and time varying with each individual Bethel. Once a term there is a special meeting held with another Bethel called a Grand Visitation which is generally scheduled for a weekend. There is also an Installation where the members change offices that is held during June and December. Those are the only meetings that members are asked to attend. Throughout the year we visit other Bethels, have fun activities, complete service projects, go to dances, and attend a state conference. These are voluntary, but enhance the Job’s Daughters experience.
- What are the benefits of joining Job’s Daughters?
- Job’s Daughters has a great deal of benefits.
- It helps teach girls responsibility. They have to call when they are going to be absent from a meeting and they have to fulfill certain duties based on their office: taking minutes, writing checks, auditing bills, leading prayers, taking care of Bethel items, giving reports, etc.
- Public speaking is another benefit. Each daughter has a speaking part that they must memorize and recite at each meeting. While most new members are sheepish to this sort of thing, the majority of our members leave with the confidence to speak to a group.
- Robert’s Rules of Order are followed during our meetings. While, most girls don’t realize what that exactly is, they learn how to make and discuss a motion properly.
- Lifelong Friendships. Not only do members get to know the girls within their Bethels, but they get to travel throughout the state and make even more friends.
- Leadership training. There are 5 offices that are voted stations. In these stations the girls are required to hold certain projects such as a service project or fund raiser. They are required to plan and implement these projects with adult supervision. There is also an opportunity to attend a Leadership conference that is held once a year which promotes team building and teaches leadership skills.
- Scholarships. There are many scholarship opportunities for girls who are Job’s Daughters.
- How large is Job’s Daughters?
- Job’s Daughters can be found throughout the United States, Canada, Brazil, Philippines, and Australia.
- Why do the members wear robes to their meetings?
- The robes are meant as a symbol of purity and equality.
