Welcome to Bethel 40 of San Diego, California

Our Bethel Number is 40 San Diego.
We were chartered in 1926.

The address where our Bethel meets is:

Scottish Rite Center
1895 Camino del Rio South
San Diego, Ca 92108-3683

Our Meetings

Our meetings are held on the First and Third Wednesdays of each month, except July and August. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and usually last 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Initiation generally adds about 45 minutes to a meeting. Daughters should arrive at the Bethel and be in robe by 6:30 pm. This helps our meetings begin on time. Any changes or cancelled meetings will be announced in advance. All Daughters are expected to attend every meeting in robe, unless excused by the Bethel Guardian.

Inkopah Guardian Council

This Association is made up of all of the bethel Guardian Councils in San Diego County. They have several functions throughout the year to which Bethels are invited. One is the All Queen's Ball, usually held in the spring. Another is the Inkopah picnic in July. It is a family picnic at the beach and usually there are several contests such as shortest member, tallest member, youngest member, newest member, oldest member, etc. It is fun for our Daughters to attend these functions and get to meet and know other Job's Daughters in our county.

Majority Degree

Daughters who have reached age 20 or become married may participate in a special Majority Degree Ceremony. The officers have memory work for the Majority Degree Ceremony. After a girl reaches majority, she is eligible to participate on the Council.

The Degree of Royal Purple

The Degree of Royal Purple is designed to honor Majority members who have been especially generous in dedicating their time and efforts to promoting their Bethels and the International Order of Job's Daughters. As Job's Daughters, we are expected to be "the Fairest in the Land," but it is often easy to fall short of the mark. The Daughter who always displays faith, responsibility, respect and love should be rewarded, and it is with this aim that the Degree of Royal Purple is conferred.

Mrs. Ethel T.Wead Mick - Our Founder

The International Order of Job's Daughters was founded in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1920, by Mrs. Ethel T. Wead Mick. The Order, which was founded in order to band together young women with Masonic relationship for the purpose of building moral and spiritual development, teaches reverence for God and the Holy Scriptures, as well as loyalty to the flag and Country for which it stands, and respect for parents and guardians. The ritualistic work of the Order is based on the Triangle, the Three Daughters of Job, the Open Book and Education.

Hearing-Impaired Kids Endowment

The Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment (HIKE) is the official philanthropic project of the International Order of Job's Daughters. The HIKE fund was founded in July of 1985 to strengthen voluntary support for hearing-impaired kids. This includes providing hearing aids and other types of hearing devices to help kids to hear at home, at school, at church and while playing sports. HIKE has helped kids in the Philippines, Australia, Canada and the USA. Proceeds from the IOJD have helped make it possible for HIKE to provide hearing devices for hearing-impaired kids from birth to 20 years of age.
