WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT?

I'm sure you've noticed that Job's Daughters has its own
"language." Here are some of the words you’ll hear and what they mean.

Job:

Not something you do to earn your allowance or pay the rent, but a book from the Bible. The book of Job is an age-old story about keeping your faith during a crisis. Not easy - especially when you're a teenager!

Bethel:

1) Biblical term meaning "holy place," 2) room where Job's Daughters holds its meetings, 3) a local Job's Daughters group (example: Bethel #8)

Daughters:

Members of the International Order of Job's Daughters

Honored Queen:

President of a Job's Daughters Bethel. Big Cheese. Head Honcho. Grand Pubah. You get it...

Senior and Junior Princess:

The vice-presidents

Guide and Marshal:

Elected offices before Senior and Junior Princess (See "Line Officers")

Line Officers:

The elected officers of the Bethel (Marshal, Guide, Junior Princess, Senior Princess, Honored Queen). The elected offices are a path that lead up to Honored Queen (HQ). The Daughters vote for these Officers each term..

Messengers:

Initiation team


Librarian:

Gives a special report every meeting. It can be a favorite poem, story, song, or a guest speaker


Treasurer:

Keeps track of the Bethel's money


Musician:

Plays the piano (or organ, other musical instrument or tape recorder) during Bethel meetings


Chaplain:

Leads Bethel prayers

Inner and Outer Guards:

Sit at the doors to the Bethel meeting room

Senior and Junior Custodians:

Set up and take down the equipment needed for the Bethel meeting

Bethel Choir:

Bethel Guardian:

A woman who is the head adult leader of the Bethel. She oversees the activities of the Bethel and Bethel Council. This is one busy lady, but never too busy for the girls!

Associate Bethel Guardian:

A man who is a Mason and assists the Bethel Guardian. This guy provides facial tissue, cough drops, bandages, bobby pins, and more.

Bethel Guardian Council:

A group of adult volunteers who advise the Bethel. The Council is led by and includes the Bethel Guardian. Each Council member has a specific job in the Bethel.

Grand / Jurisdictional Guardian Council:

The state or provincial level of Job's Daughters. Larger provinces and states usually have them; smaller provinces and states usually do not and are "under Supreme."
