This building was originally created in the 1800's as a Paladian style party house for a rich land-owner. The original plan was a single story with relatively small windows set into stone (plastic?) in between each column. In the early 1900's, the building was sold to the LEGO government. The government decided to turn it into post office. However, the Paladian style was not in vogue at this time, so it was decided to convert it to a more Victorian look. The stone between the columns was ripped out and replaced with glass and iron. A second story was added with more iron and glass. The post office has survived in this condition to this day. Conveniently enough, the train track winds right by the front of the building so that mail can be loaded on and off the train. |
