Ogel's Ministry of the Brick

The latest addition to Greed Square is Ogel's Ministry of the Brick, home of OBN (Ogel's Broadcasting Network).

OBN broadcasts many of religious BrickTopians’ favorite shows including "Praise the Brick," "The 24hrs of Power," and "Ogel: Forming a personal relationship with the Brick."

Although many TV ministries operate under the guise of non-profit status, OBN doesn't bother with such facades. It is the first openly for-profit, TV ministry.  According to its president, Ogel, the ministry provides a valuable service to the populous, and for that, it deserves to make money.

Ogel was once an international criminal, wreaking havoc by converting entire populations into submissive zombies. After an arduous search, a police division called the Alpha Team finally located Ogel using a new Zombie radar detector.

Although Ogel put up a valiant fight, he was captured in the end, and sent to the BrickTopia police headquarters (click to see it). Here, as are all criminals, Ogel was subjected to brutal torture including sermon after sermon of numbing religious dogma throughout the day. After two weeks of such torture, many prisoners attempt suicide out of sheer boredom.  However, Ogel seemed to grow increasingly interested in the services.  In fact, he even began asking questions and correcting the priests.  Finally, Ogel claimed that he had found the "Brick" and that he had been born again.  He pledged to share the "Brick" with all who would listen.

Confused by Ogel's behavior, the police didn't know what to do. Nobody had ever actually enjoyed the police brutality.  It was clear that subsequent treatment was not going to help.  The Police decided to release him, on the condition that he never practice his zombie technology again.  He was informed that Alpha Team scanners were set to instantly detect any hint of Zombie weapons or other such devices and then Ogel would be returned to jail.

Thus Ogel was freed. He immediately started OBN to preach the word to his flock.  After several years, OBN has grown into very profitable business consisting of millions of faithful, yet gullible viewers with dollars to spare.

Here, one sees a view looking downwards on the building.

Ogel gave up the traditional red and black color scheme of his previous, criminal life, in exchange for pure black. According to Ogel, this is to represent his new-found purity of mind.

One can see the asymmetry made up of conflicting curves, and planes juxtaposed like a cubistic sculpture. In contrast to the ordered purity of color, the form of the building is highly chaotic.

When asked about this apparent contrast, Ogel commented, "The Brick works in mysterious ways. I placed one Brick and another followed in its steed.  As I built, one Brick suggested the form of another and the building flowed upwards until the form was complete. The chaos of the structure flows from the chaos of the Brick.  Man must learn to harness and control this chaos, molding it into purity.  The chaotic form of the building, representing the raw chaos of the Brick, is held in check by the same form's purity of color.   Thus, the building is a balance of chaos and order."

Here, one sees details of the top of the building.

The two gray spires are television antennas.  They put out a signal of sufficient power to reach every citizen in BrickTopia.

The small satellite dish on the left beams the signal to Ogel's orbiting satellite.  Should it be necessary, the dish also doubles as an air defense radar and is attached to an anti-aircraft, missile system.  Ogel suffers from extreme paranoia due to years of running from Alpha Team agents.

The pipes shown on the lower half of the picture form part of the ventilation system for the building.  When Ogel gives one of his powerful sermons, he becomes extremely hot and requires large amounts of cooling to counteract the heat.  This problem is made all the worse by the black armor suit that Ogel always wears.  This is again a vestige of his criminal days and he refuses to remove it, for fear that some misguided Alpha Team assassin will try to end his new life of good.

The picture below shows the entrance to the building.  A statue of Ogel beckons to the faithful (on the right) while an Earthly Apostle (on the left) eagerly waits to show visitors into the ministry.  The Apostle's face is strangely white, but since no zombie technology has been detected on the premises, one must assume that this is purely a mild complexion rather than some evil scheme..
