Octan World Headquarters

This unusual-looking building is the Octan World Headquarters.

Octan is a major oil producer.  Although all transportation in BrickTopia is electric, oil serves as a critical raw material for making plastic which is used for all buildings in the city.  Therefore, oil production is an extremely important industry.

When 20 trans-green curved windows became available on Brickbay, the BrickTopian citizens became very excited because they knew that they could use them to build another large building.  Several uses were proposed (including an expansion of the Emerald Chapel).  However, the mayor decided that it was time to attract new industry.  The Octan company was looking for a new headquarters, but couldn't decide on a location.  The mayor offered the windows as an incentive to construct the building in BrickTopia.  Unfortunately, the Octan company was still not convinced.  They worried that they might need to eventually re-locate elsewhere should the labor pool be more available elsewhere.  To deal with this problem, the city architect proposed the creation of a semi-portable building.  The idea is that the building can be moved, if necessary, to some other city, should that become necessary.  This saves the company from having to build another building.  Also, the construction costs were cheaper because the building could be created elsewhere, and then moved on sight by enormous giants.

The resulting building is decidedly modern in look.  The general shape resembles an off-shore oil drilling platform.  This was partially done to symbolize the company's product and partially because the shape lent itself well to creating a building that could be moved, if necessary.

The bottom floors of the building are extremely heavy and solid.  Ventilation tubes extend from both sides.  The front door is blocked by a security panel that is normally closed.  When necessary, it can be opened to allow access to the front entrance (see here).

The middle floor is dominated by an open-air patio with a cafe as well as a front balcony.  Also on this floor is the accounting department (inside the green dome on the left).

The upper floors contain various secret offices.  The trans-green panels are mounted horizontally and then rotated about 30 degrees to give the angled appearance.  The panels are held securely to the main structure by several, hidden hinges.

This shot shows the left side of the building.

The radar dishes on top are used to communicate with the various satellites in operation by the company.  These satellites are used to collect geological information for finding new oil reserves.

One might wonder at the reason for the antiquated TV antenna when TV could be brought in via cable or satellite.  It turns out that the CEO (the main TV viewer in the company) is very conservative and insists on getting his TV the "old fashioned way" without any of the "pesky extra channels."  To each his own.

The two, round dark gray machines on the top of the building are air conditioning units.
