This is BrickTopia's Spaceport, located in the suburb of Euphoria. Previously, all space launches took place at remote locations, but astronauts complained that travel to these places was too inconvenient. They wanted a research and launch center nearer to their homes. Of course, surrounding residents weren't exactly fond of building such a noisy, dangerous facility near their homes. A substantial contribution from BASA (Bricktopia Aeronautics and Space Administration) to the Mayor's new luxury villa fund took care of this issue, and a permit was granted. The result is a soaring emerald green skyscraper, currently the tallest in the Euphoria suburb. The large blue base includes two launch pads for XP-90 launch craft. Next to each launch pad is situated a control center dome for the associated pad. The upper floors of the tower hold additional control rooms, a medical center, a prep room, fuel storage, and a personal jet pack launch pad.

Here, one can see the unusual curves of the green glass that wrap the upper floors. The curves help dissipate the extreme air pressures generated when space craft are launched and recovered. The green coating on the glass provides heat resistance. Of course, surrounding buildings do not fare so well. The BrickTopia Luxury Appartment building is situated only a few feet away (see picture here). When the space port was built, BASA had to volunteer to install heat and noise resistent glass on that nearby structure. Of course, this doesn't help much for the rooftop pool on the appartment building (see picture here). Residents taking a little swim must contend with occasional heat and pressure blasts from space launches. Some residents have actually welcomed this because the heat provides for a quick tanning process.

In this shot, one can see the large square footage covered by the base of the building. Both launch pads are also visible in this picture. The large green domes next to each launch pad house the associated control centers. |
