In 1989 Colonel Charles Foremen, Society Governor from 1987 to 1989, conceived and brought into being what has become the DC Society's annual scholarship program (now entitled The Charles A. Foremen Scholarship). The program, supported entirely by voluntary contributions, is one of the society's most important activities and helps foster the study of American History and Pilgrim heritage.
The awardee for this scholarship, a junior student (rising senior) of American history at the George Washington University, is selected annually by a panel of professors in the university's Department of History. The award is presented each year during the Society's Spring Meeting.
