Information For Speakers
Our group consists primarily of adults of retirement age but we do have some working professionals. I expect around 40 to 50 attendees. Computer skill level spans the spectrum from rank beginner to power user and everything in between. It usually works best if you speak slowly, loudly, and clearly to make sure you are communicating with the audience. Some of our members have hearing aids and will not understand you if you mumble or speak too quickly or too quietly. It's good to announce ahead of time if you'd like to field questions as we go or if you prefer to wait until the end.
We meet at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Saturday morning from 9 am until noon. It is best to arrive around 8:30 to make sure everything gets set up and is working by the time most people arrive. We usually meet in the Business and General Services building (BGS) Room 115.
Please click the Map and Directions link to see a detailed campus map. We meet under the "B" in the BGS Building next to Lot 9. We don't always meet in this room but if we don't I will give you specific instructions where we will be.
The schedule will go something like this. We start at 9 am with about 10 minutes of announcements and general information. Then we will introduce you. We like to take a 20 minute break around 10:15 or 10:30. If you are done with your actual presentation we will have questions when we return from the break. If we get through all application-specific questions, we will then open the floor to general Q&A. Around 11:50 we need to finish up to leave time for a door prize drawing. We need to be fairly punctual about leaving at noon.
Our members appreciate purchasing products at a user group discount, especially if you will be available to assist them later if needed. Please let me know ahead of time if you will be bringing products to sell. This can be done during the break and at the conclusion of the talk.
We appreciate when our speakers bring door prizes but it is by no means required. An interesting and informative presentation is the best gift of all. I think you'll find we are a friendly group, we ask lots of good questions, and we certainly appreciate you coming out here to share your knowledge with us.
