Insult to Injury?

Now THAT is having a bad day.

Well...Maybe not today.

I got up on time. I packed my new backpack with all the needed items. I put on my Psycho hat and proceeded to the garage to find a flat rear tire.

Obviously, I did not have time to change a rear. Front, maybe, but not a rear. So back into the house I went to shower, unpack my clothes from the backpack and get dressed for work. Ho-hum.

I was really looking forward to biking in today, but I guess a flat rear tire is about as good a sign as any that God was watching out for Old Wayne, as the torrential downpour hit just about 9:45pm central and it was still raining when I left work at 10:40pm. And the wind hasn't been below 20mph in the last 3 days.

Maybe tomorrow. If it's not raining. Again.

Yeah. That's how I roll.

I've joked about it for years. I even almost gone through with it once. But now, it seems, it is going to become really real. Tomorrow, I ride my bike to work!

The last time I thought about doing this, I actually went out and bought a bike helmet. (Quit laughing, Kelly!) It's not one of the ultra-racy models you see The Lance wearing. Nosir, it's called "The Psycho" and it's the predecessor to the Bell Faction, which was their 'collaboration' with Tony Hawk--who's two years older than I, so if he can wear one...well, you get the picture. And I assure you, it is uber-cool.

Today I received the last piece of my puzzle, which answers the question as to how I was going to carry all the stuff needed to make myself presentable after arriving at work. Most of you know, I work afternoons, which means my daily commute is usually during the hottest part of the day. Granted, it's only about 3 miles, but a guy (especially a guy built like me) can generate a lot of sweat in 3 miles at 95 degrees F, if you catch my drift. Needless to say, there will be a shower before joining my co-workers to earn an honest day's pay. Hence, the need to carry work clothes, shower shoes, towel and toiletries, as well as all my regular assorted junk--mp3 player, small first aid kit, LOTS of tylenol, sunglasses, etc--and occasionally the laptop since the office has a shower, but no lockers.

This is all providing the weather holds. It's looking good to start, but they're saying it might get bumpy as the day progresses. Fingers crossed, and I'll let you know how it goes.
