The Bible Speaks: Paul in Conflict - AFC 1996

Once and Future Conflict

Exodus 14:11-15, Acts 23, Matthew 5:9; 26:45-46

Conflict is part of Life

Conflict: Avoid it, Create it, or Handle it?

When humans live in community, conflict is unavoidable.

Conflict is a part of life‹tension between competing forces that is not easily resolved.

It is clear from scripture that God uses conflict to mold and perfect the people of God. So, grow up, and deal with it wisely.

Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, the prophets, Ester, Jesus, Paul, all lived lives full of conflict.

Suppressing conflict may actually be working against the purposes of God. Consider God's words to Moses and the Israelites at the Red Sea, and the words of Jesus just before his arrest in the garden‹ "UP, don't stand firm, Go Forward!"

Persons today frequently experience conflict between acceptance "by faith" of doctrines and acceptance only of what has been experimentally verified.
How do you think Paul, the missionary to the gentile world would deal with this conflict?

What do you think?
€ Can you recall occasions where dramatic benefit came from conflict?
€What kind of conflict makes you really uncomfortable?
€ What gives you strength to face conflict?
€ What stimulates you to walk God's way?

As active agents in resolving conflicts, as painfully difficult as it may be, we become peacemakers‹blessed to be known as the children of God.
