The Bible Speaks: Paul in Conflict - AFC 1996

Look, This is Supposed to be a Church

1 Cor. 1:1017; 1 Cor. 12:1230; Eph. 4:1516

We must grow up in every way.

Is Jesus mine, or am I his?

Jesus Christ is a personal Savior, for he frees us from ourselves‹our guilts, our own strange cravings, our jealousy of neighbors, our mean-spiritedness. The operative phrase, however, is frees us from ourselves for others.

There are many different activities and programs in our churches today. What knits it all together?

The Image of the Body
Paul paints a picture of all Christians as the body of Christ, an organic unity.
Individuals exercising different gifts each play an integral role in the body.

Paul would certainly have little patience with our concern for real estate and facilities. The church is the people + the Spirit.

Without a vision of the whole, particular groups within the church may begin seeing themselves as the most important part of the church.

What do you think?
€ What is the most important part of this church?
€ Did you fall for the trap in the last question?
€ How do you know if the body is healthy?
€ Is there a place for covenant community in a day of American individualism, consumerism, and endless opportunity?
€ Are you a happy saint?

As active agents in resolving conflicts, as painfully difficult as it may be, we become peacemakers‹blessed to be known as the children of God.
