I owned a 1:1 69 Firebird, so this car was almost a must have.

I built a couple into slotcars, the body is virtualy the same from original REVELL slotcar to the 68 Formula 400 Firebird model kit.

The Scalextric Trans AM Mustang chassis actually fits the REVELL bodies better than using the chassis from the Scalextric Camaro  because it's (mustang) narrower. Down lower on this page you'll see a ORANGE firebird resin body by David Reinecke (dreinecke@att.net) that was designed just for a Scalextric Camaro chassis.

Using a Scalextric mustang chassis you can make the car sit lower than the REVELL slotcar ever was with the body covering the rear wheels.  If you use the camaro chassis you have to have it "jacked up" in the back because it's wider at the rear track and the wheels won't fit under the body. Then you'll also have to sand some clearence for the front tires.

Here is the  Revell formula 400 plastic model kit

Mounting the body

Scalextric T/A Chassis modification to the front.... After removing the front spoiler I cut the front of the mustang chassis w/ a knife saw. First cuts are straight up from the front wheels, each side of the chassis removing the mustang fender sections. I then cut straight across the mustang chassis just forward of the front screw holes removing the front valence panel. Then I replaced the spoiler after cleaning up the edges. I used the mustang screws to fasten it all in. On the rear I used a washer on each screw. A bit of black model paint to clean it up and it's done, it was pretty easy actually.

Body posts
Scalextric T/A Chassis modification to the rear.... I cut the back off right next to the gas tank. Then I cut the rear screw bosses off flush w/ the inside of the chassis. (this makes it sit low, and level)
I used some 3/8ths balsa wood square stock glued to the inside of the front and rear of body so I'd have something to screw the chassis to. Front wood block had to be trimmed a bit on the "center inside edge" to clear the guide flag/chassis assembly. I didn't want it hitting anything.

This is the slotcar version "tuperware" plastic body.

On this car I used a Scalextric T/A Camaro chassis.
Currently it is unpainted, I haven't decided what color yet, I've been driving it it's so fun and fast.

Here is my David Reinecke MotorSports (dreinecke@att.net) pontiac firebird so far.

Detail is very good, possibly even better than Revell's own "1968 Firebird 400" model kits.

Chassis I chose to use is from a Scalextric Mustang.

I did use a camaro rear axle assembly and a few shims to fill the width.

Chassis mounting was done with 3/8ths Balsa Wood blocks and (#4) wood screws

Firebird front Spoiler looks even better on the firebird body than a Camaro one does.

Wheels will be yellow spoked with silver rims. Interior is also from a mustang and 1/4" cut off the bottom to keep the body nice and low on the chassis.

Bumpers are drying, I just painted them chrome silver, and next I'll mount them on. Grill or radiator area will be black.
Windows for some reason look funky in the pics, but are fine to the eye.
