| OKLAHOMA I Chapter
Biography
Chapter Oklahoma I of the Blue Knights was chartered in October 1975 by several members of the Tulsa Police Department. Since then Oklahoma I has come to include members of several law enforcement agencies. These have included Federal, State, County, Municipal and Tribal government agencies from Northeastern Oklahoma. During the early years members were busy raising children and had little time or money to spend on lengthy trips. Camping trips were common. Destinations usually consisted of locations in Northeast Oklahoma, Northwest Arkansas, or Southwest Missouri. The occasional ride to Southeast Oklahoma, perhaps with a tour along the scenic Talamena Drive into Southwest Arkansas, was the exception. Oklahoma I did not initially opt to join a Conference. When Conference membership became mandatory the Chapter initially joined the Southern Regional Conference. Oklahoma I was later released to become a part of the newly formed Mid West Regional Conference. Members of the Chapter have taken an active role in the Conference. They have served terms as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-Chairman, Chairman, and International Representative. Most recently member Jerry Bryan completed his third two year term as International Treasurer and was elected International Vice President for 2007 and 2008. The Chapter hosted an MWRC meeting for the fourth time in June 2002. The 1980 International Convention in Rockford, Illinois was the first attended by a member of Oklahoma I. His tales of the good times he had there were so impressive that he was accompanied by three couples to the 1981 International Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona. Members of Oklahoma I have been attending International Conventions ever since. Some members, including that first attendee, have never missed a convention since the first they attended. Oklahoma I received the very first Roger P. Farris Award for chapter participation in Bangor, Maine in 1984. Those attending that 10th Anniversary Convention were Hershel & Barbara Jones, David &Teri Stone, Frank & Judy Wallace and Jerry Bryan. The participation of the chapter has continued to grow. Oklahoma I won the Farris Award again in Norfolk, Virginia in 1993. At the 2004 International Convention in St. Hiacynthe, Quebec Oklahoma I won its 3rd Roger P. Farris Award. Oklahoma Chapter I has been a long time, faithful,
contributor to the Blue Knights Special Fund. Member Jerry Bryan was
instrumental in helping the Board of Governors leadership establish the
John Bartholomew Award in honor of that long time champion of the fund. This
award is presented each year to the Chapter that contributes the most dollars per
member to the Special Fund. Oklahoma Chapter I was the recipent of the award in 2003.
