Glendale

Herring Pond (now called Spring Lake) as it looked in the early 1900's.  The building is the old hotel.  This was always a popular swimming place with people flocking in from other cities and towns especially on a Sunday.  They would get off at the trolley stop in Glendale and jitneys would take them the rest of the distance to the lake.  Later the beach was built up with a number concession stands, Trank Bros. Cafe, an arcade, and a merry-go-round.  It was widely known for its clam cakes and shore dinner hall.
