Herring
Pond (now called Spring Lake) as it looked in the early 1900's. The
building is the old hotel. This was always a popular swimming place
with people flocking in from other cities and towns especially on a Sunday.
They would get off at the trolley stop in Glendale and jitneys would take
them the rest of the distance to the lake. Later the beach was built
up with a number concession stands, Trank Bros. Cafe, an arcade, and a
merry-go-round. It was widely known for its clam cakes and shore
dinner hall.
Johnny's Clam Spa known throughout the region for its
fried clams.
