DREAMLAND VILLA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
NOVEMBER 14, 2000
OPEN FORUM
Jim Quinn talked on the need for a new pool table and repairs needed for the other tables in the pool room.
Burt Olsen resigned as chairman of the circulation committee for the Citizen.
Bill Regenold praised the veterans day program. He questioned the purchase of the easement.
Marge Hawkins praised the board for securing a better speaker system. Asked about the Haw Hee equipment given to DVCC. It was answered that it was being used at Farnsworth. She also praised the veterans day program.
Kelsey Daugherty reported estate sales are being run illegally in Dreamland Villa.
Kathryn Valentine said she had given a signed petition to Maricopa County and to Dreamland. She wants to do away with storage of boats, trailers and RV's on Dreamland property. Her petition was received too late for consideration at this meeting.
Al Sagstetter wants funds to be spent on Bocci Ball courts.
Bob France asked about the purchase of a ping pong table. Question was asked where would we play ping pong?
Roll call of Officers and Directors. Present were: Cook, Anderson, Glauner, Gullickson, Henslin, Miller, Peck, Quinney, Roberts, Thomas, Wenzel and Young. Lundquist was excused.
It was moved to accept Max Clevenger's resignation by Mary Anne Glauner, second by Robert Andersen. Carried. It was voted to appoint Bob Freis and Gene Enockson to the board by Mary Anne Glauner, second by Robert Andersen. Carried. Bob Freis and Gene Enockson were sworn in as new members as was Dick Young to the office of Vice President.
Don Miller moved to approve the October board minutes with the following corrections: May minutes were approved at the September meeting but not reported in the September minutes. Bob White's comments at the October Open Forum should read, " a few board members were apparently plotting to gain power although such power does not exist in our social clubs. He pointed out some ways this group might work to achieve this supposed power".
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Gene Enockson stated we have a liability factor in our rentals of Farnsworth and Read Halls because of underage drinking and potential DUI. We must protect the clubs's interest in our hall rentals.
Bob Freis asked for people to run for the board.
Syb Gullickson said a Minnesota Club is being planned. She also gave member's participation as follows: pinochle 91, bridge 81, whist 19, cribbage 130, euchre 59, canasta 29, 500 39, bingo Wed-127, Thurs-50, computer club had 298 hours in room R-9.
Bill Henslin gave the Long Range Planning Committee report: Money to be set aside for air conditioners at the rate of $15,000 a year until we have $40,000 in an account to be maintained, $10,000 for pool and spa equipment each year until $25,000 in account to be maintained, pool set aside of $15,000 per year until $30,000 in account to be maintained, $15,000 per year for buildings until $50,000 in account be maintained, parking lot, lights, fences, trees, etc. $15,000 per year until it reaches $30,000 to be maintained.
Russ Peck plans to hire a new accounting firm. We will have a more detailed financial report which will be more easily understood.
Paul Quinney stated a report on the policy and procedures will be ready for review at the next board meeting.
Bob Roberts warned us about scamming now operating in our area.
Emmett Wenzel reported the PA systems in both Farnsworth and Read are working very well. He is looking into a new shed to be built for maintenance. Sound proofing between rooms will be accomplished in the near future. Savings in salaries are under study.
Dick Young reported on past and future entertainment scheduled.
OLD BUSINESS
Dick Young said we need volunteers to help erect the monument sign at Read Hall. He moved to spend $2,500 for the construction. $2,100 from DVCC funds and $400 from donations already received. Second by Paul Quinney. Carried.
Dick Young discussed the Christmas Decorations contest which will be judged by four qualified people. The Grand Prize will be $75, Eye appeal $50 and $50 for most original. To enter you must be a paid up member of DVCC and register by Dec. 8.
Syb Gullickson stated the Garden Club made $415 and the library $115 at their Nov. 11 sales. Both groups were pleased with these figures.
Don Miller reported on the Veterans Day program .
Mary Anne Glauner moved to approve the proposed rental rules and fees. Second by Paul Quinney. After a lengthy discussion with amendments on amendments it was moved by Bob Roberts, second by Gene Enockson to refer to committee. Carried.
It was moved by Gene Enockson that no further non-member rentals of Farnsworth Hall involving the serving of beer and wine be scheduled until a comprehensive study of such rentals is completed and acted upon by the Board of Directors and/or the general membership. Second by Robert Andersen. It was moved to amend this motion to the report finished by March 1, 2001. Moved by Mary Anne Glauner, second by Emmett Wensel. Carried.
Mary Anne Glauner explained the plans for the January 6, 2001 Activities Day.
Russ Peck announced that volunteers will be honored at a breakfast to be held in the near future. Exact date to be announced.
NEW BUSINESS
Mary Anne Glauner read the proposed changes to the By-Laws to the Board. The proposed changes will be published in the December issue of the Citizen and voted on by the General Membership in February.
Russ Peck moved to approve the 2001 budget as presented. Second by Paul Quinney. Carried
Emmett Wenzel announced the dues would remain the same as in 2000.
Don Miller asked for volunteers to be on a Welcoming Committee which would call on newcomers. Anyone interested is asked to contact Miller or the DVCC office.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Don Miller reported there will be no Thanksgiving Dinner this year.
Don Miller read a thank you from the Tod McMichael family for our participation in the ceremony to honor Tod.
Emmett Wensel moved, Russ Peck seconded to adjourn the meeting.
