Web Sites for Virus & Hoax Information

When someone sends you an E-Mail telling about a new virus, check one of these sites first, before you forward their E-Mail. Often they are just a hoax.

Hoax Busters
Computer Virus Myths
Data Doctors
Net Hoaxes & Urban Legends
IBM Virus Research

In addition to the above, we have added the sites suggested by our speaker, Tom Lissiton, from the FBI. These sites should be good for virus alerts, hoaxes, hacker alerts and general tech information.

Federal Bureau of Investigation
National Infrastructure Protection Center
CERT Coordination Center
Gibson Research Center

We have discovered a new Freeware Program called WebFerret which does Internet searches for any topic. It is designed to search many search engines automatically for your topic. You don't have to stick to a one word topic, you can ask for a whole phrase. You can download WebFerret directly from: http://www.ferretsoft.com/netferret/download.htm Give it a try. I think you will like it. FerretSoft also has a shareware program called Phone Ferret. This performs a similar task by searching several directories such as Switchboard.com, etc. for phone numbers in the United States. There is a small fee for this program. It can be downloaded from the same URL.
