- Classic Speed Festival Pix (10/12/03). -
Page 1 of 2

This was the first Classic Speed Festival that I'd ever attended.  It was held at Coronado's North Island Naval Base.  Larry, Angie & I attended.  Lot's of great cars, classics and moderns, although, only the classics raced.  And wow did they!  Eight awesome races with car classes ranging from 1917 through the early 1970s.

One could also walk amongst the cars, whether those belonging to car club owners that were parked in a special lot, or those there to race that were parked or being worked on in the pits.

Larry & Angie behind a 1970 Mustang

Here are Larry and Angie standing behing a 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback.  This style of car is one of my favorites.  A good ol' classic muscle car.  The info sheet attached to the car showed the below pic and said the owner bought the car for $2,000 back in 1999 and fixed it up:

Great Job on the Fix-Up!

This is a 1966 Ginetta G-12.  It is Larry's absolute dream car.  This particular car was driven by Geoff Mattei in the Group 5 1962-1966 Sports Racing & Production Sports Cars race.  Geoff was doing very well and had taken the pole position.  He held the first place for about 3 laps until he lost control and spun out.  He got back in the race in last place and managed to overtake about 8 cars, but unfortunately never regained the lead.

Larry's Favorite

Hey! Where's my head!?!

Here's another shot of the Ginetta.  This was taken after the races were finished and we were wandering the pits.  That's Larry & I in the picture.  Notice how small the Ginetta is.  It even has a "bubble" in the roof to give the driver's helmet more room (actually more visable in the pic above).  Speaking of headroom, I wonder why Angie cut my head out of the picture?!?

HA!
