Famous Family Notables
Beginning with the most remote known, but still from which a direct family line of descent may be proven, William the Conqueror of Normandy and England, born 1024, is our earliest ancestor. His line descends through King Henry 11 Plantagenet and his spouse Eleanor of Aquitaine, King John 1, and King Henry 111 Plantagenet. Another beginning point lies in Reginald Sumarlidisson Lord of the Isles [Scotland] born about 1150. Both these families merged until eventually our first direct descendent from royalty, John Crandall, emigrated to Rhode Island where he died in 1676. John was the great great grandfather of the Rhoda b.1743 who married Ephraim Davenport. Rhoda also, though other grandparents, descended from Francis Cooke, a passenger on the Mayflower.
Very remotely there is a blood tie between our Davenport line and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. We both descend from Francis Cooke of the Mayflower. In order going back ......Franklin D. Similarly George W. Bush is a descendent of Francis Cooke and thus remotely related................ George Bush, Prescott Bush, Flora Sheldon, Mary Butler, Courtland Butler, Samuel Butler, Sarah Herrick, Silence Kingsley, Samuel Kingsley, Mary Washburn, Elizabeth Mitchell, Jane Cooke, FRANCIS COOKE.
Our line of descent is through Mary Cooke, a sister of Jane Cooke.
Remote as well is the connection to William Howard Taft. Thomas Davenport, our first American Davenport who lived in Dorchester Mass. had a great great Granddaughter named Anna Davenport. Anna was the great grandmother of President Taft.
