Meeting of a Special Committee to Consider Use of Katrina Funds
March 9, 2006
Gufhaven Mennonite Church

Persons Attending: Emma Myers, Duane Maust, Nelson Roth , Robert Zehr

We all attended a monthly meeting of senior citizens which gathers over the lunch hour at Gulfhaven. The meeting was well attended and we shared who we were and the purpose of our gathering at their church. We were invited to share in a delicious noon lunch.

The following items were discussed with the accompanying recommendations for the
GSMC Executive Committee.

1 Emma reported that as of this date Funds earmarked Katrina Fund in the amount of $55,429.72 have been received.

2. It was agreed that GSMC Mennonite women distribute Mennonite women gift cards to Light House Fellowship and Amor Viviente women leadership to distribute to women in each church according to needs. These gift cards in denominations of $10-20 amounting to a total of about $1,800.00 were given by Mennonite Women USA to GSMC women as an expression of concern and love. Gulfhaven (via Pastor Nelson Roth ) has suggested that the gift cards go to the two churches above since many of Gulfhaven’s needs are being met. The above suggestions have been given to Dot Miller, GSMC MW president. She is acting upon this direction.

3. It was agreed that Amor Viviente be funded with $32,500.00 for rebuilding needs.

4. It was agreed that the following priorities be recognized in using Katrina funds.

 -GSMC Family needs
-GSMC Church interests (restoration, Initial seed money for potential church plants resulting from Katrina relief outreach)
 -GSMC Church relocations
 -Pastoral Care and Refreshment
